Hi Folks,
I just listened to my song "Cry To Me" on this forum and it's less than half the original volume and extremely dull sounding. It is the same when listening to the song on SoundCloud.
Actually I just double checked this and it's actually a quarter of the volume of the original and very dull
Yet looking at the waveform on Soundcloud it does not appear to be over-compressed nor too loud.
I have not noticed this with my other submissions on Soundcloud or this forum.
Why is this?

All of the streaming services compress the files or reduce the sample rate to save bandwidth.
That's one of the reasons I have started using box dot com. I can upload WAV files and that is what my listeners experience as well.
I just listened to the song you referenced. It sounds pretty loud. Certainly not dull or lacking fidelity.

It depends on how the algorithm reads your file I suppose. I've been a bit tired of the Soundcloud blanket of late so use YouTube as the levels can be managed as well as the bit rate etc. A dead simple single frame video with title etc. is all you need to carry the song.

Obviously the forum has no effect on the sound as you are simply linking to SC and that is where the listener gets their stream independent of any forum influence. FWIW, I and likely you also submit only wav files to SC. They will crush an mp3 sometimes. Also if after uploading I hear artifacts I replace the file with another copy of the same and it sometimes sounds better. BTW, SC is one of the very few major streaming platforms that doesn't raise or reduce the gain of your song. With my marginal hearing I have to be very careful when listening to SC as some users upload extremely loud tunes. Yours always sound quite comfortable and at the streaming volume of Spotify, Apple, etc. Not to get off base any further  but one can drop a song onto loundnesspenalty's web page and without signing up or uploading the song it will instantly be analyzed and give you info on to what degree, if any, the major platforms will modify it.
