During the summers of 1984 and '86, I worked as a guide for a working dude ranch in Clark, CO. I learned a helluva lot about horses, cattle, and myself back then. It was an experience I'll never forget and every once in a while it inspires a song like this non-autobiographical one. Hope you enjoy it and constructive criticism is always welcomed!

Nicely done.

I like this. Well done lyrically. And a good mix.

Dewey,

A true Top-Notch write. This is pro level.
Every line is good. No fillers, no wasted words.
It is easy to write a "cowboy song" filled with cowboy-song-cliches. None of that here. A very original write.
And the trajectory of the song is just right. Very well thought out.
Impressive.

This is also (opinion) your best vocal, too. I believe every word. Sung with heart.

And...just the right production. Well mixed.

One to crow about.

Floyd said it all. What a VERY nice song! If you didn't give yourself goosebumps while writing this you have ice water in your veins. So cool...

Sounds like it was a great life experience for you, Dewey. Thanks for sharing some of those sounds here. Love these non-autobiological songs that come from personal experience. A wonderful vocal track sung from the heart. A really well-written song that pleases the ears and brings a knowing smile to the face. Listened twice so far, but this one is in my favorites. I'll say it again: Life is a hard ride, and songs like this make it easier. Thanks, Dewey.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Dewey, this is my new favorite from you. Great lyrics and vocal. Made me think of taking care of the trail horses when I worked at a camp in the NC mountains during summers in high school, Tom

A pretty cool story that you tell in the best possible way.
I guess that's what they call a cowboy song.

Dewey, I agree with Floyd.
You are a great storyteller and to put that into a song just amazes me!
The backing tracks are perfect for this.
Outstanding vocal and lyrics.
Great mix.

Hey Dewey, this is a great song man.

Very touching and heartfelt. Coming straight out of life itself.

It definitely has that feel of authenticity like you're not making it up, so it sounds like a real song from the heart, if that makes any sense.

Great vocals too.

Excellent.

Really enjoyable song. It had me picturing the Norman Rockwell painting of the old cowboy sat by a gramophone and holding a 78rpm record with "Dreams Of Long Ago" written on the label (as use for the Pure Prairie League 1st album cover).
