Hi Russ,
Reminds me of my old daddy sitting listening to his beloved country songs on his radiogram.
Very nostalgic.
I loved it, well done.
Best regards Michee

Hi Russ, Excellent entertainment in my opinion. If I had to come up with one word for this I think it would be 'smooth'. If Hank Jr. is lurking maybe he'll give some thought to getting back to his roots a little. lol. If you don't mind my asking, what panning did you use on this. I seem to be hearing bass a little left, one of the guitars a little right, the slide guitar a little right, drums and vocals centered, steel guitar in break centered. Not a wide stereo field, yet everything sounds good -- to my ears at least. Levels seem to be set really well, with everything nice and clear. Again-very good song, thanks for sharing. Jim
I'd be completely happy if I had just one more guitar.

Hey Russ, I loved it. What are you using for drums. I loved the sound of the bass guitar and the bass drum together. Harmony not bad. You did a good job all around. I like when you come out with something new. occ

Nice job! Very laid back, just fine to me. Though you made very good and tastful use of the Digitech, I still find the harmonies a tad too digitized. But hey, who can afford a couple of real backing singers these days?

Hey Lads. Thanks for the kind words. The balance may be due to how you have your system setup. I have a good bit of separation on the instruments. The bass is set to -5 and the drums to +5. The rest is as you said. OCC I used the DR005 synth on midi drums. In this way I have total control over what the drums sound like. As a synth I can create any drum lick I like where I can't do that with Real Drums. Mike I appreciate your comments. Yeh a digitech will never replace the real human voice I suppose. But consider this. That is my vox being used for the harmonies where the TCHelicon takes an existing and rips it into harmony based on an algorithum. Therefore the voices always sound kind of torn to me. The Digitech takes my vox and diverts it into 4 separate tracks, processes it, then goes to output. Also the DT is a vocal processor. So there is a lot of voodoo that goes on inside of it. Thanks to everybody here for the nice compliments.

Hey Russ! This song really suits your voice. I'd like to have heard the voice a little more up front, but that's just a personal preference. Sigh, the steel made me think about Howard. Good job.

One of your best my friend. This (to my ears anyway) really had a live feel. All it needed was a little feet sliding on sawdust sound. Great song, great production and equally as great performance.
If you don't mind me asking, what setup did you have on the old harmonizer?
Later,

Russ, Very nicely done. I think its time to ditch the digi and start sang'n real harms, you are a great singer with a fantastic vocal tone. I know you can knock out some harms bud. You sing in key and on pitch, no need for canned harms anymore, IMO. This was really good !! Trax

It’s your best to date!
It’s a keeper!

Oh no no no no no! My voice box won't do those kinds of harmonies anymore. I've lost a lot of falcetto. (SPL?) Mostly dry air comes out when I try to sing those kinds of notes. And the pedal does it so much better than I can. Part of gett'en old Mate.

I'll add to that . . . kinda tuff singing those harms all by yourself on live gigs also.
I'm with Russ, Thank goodness for technology.

Well I've always been more of a "purist" when it comes to harmony. But that sounds beautiful on your voice Russ. I confess, If I could afford one I'd be mighty tempted. Which model do you have?
Great job on the song.

Hi Russ, A great song and very well performed - great vocal and instrumentation just right. I thought the harmony sounded good. For me everything was well balanced. I really enjoyed it.

Lyrics are superb. as is the singing and the composition.
A couple of minor suggestions: I know I’ve got a reputation as a ryhme policeman but today/away/ways + break (hmm !!)
I realise its supposed to be slow but I feel this one could be just a little too slow.
..but overall this is a thoroughly impressive piece.
Even a great ending. What a pro you are, Russ!
Marc

Wow! Thank you all again. Really surprised at the positive responses. Josie it's the Digitech 4. They have a Digitech 2 as well for $299.00 last time I looked. It sounds equally good. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the 4 does and has only 2 harmony voices. But it's good. Danny Campo has the same one I've got, only, he got his first. Mark. The pace of this song is the same as the original. I created all music with Real Instruments. The only midi was the drums. I prefer midi drums as I can set them to play anyway I wish. Then I back that with the DR005 drum synth. Only it's using actual drum instruments and not midi drums. Almost like using loops only the synth controls the process. I just sit back and listen with a big sappy grin on my face.

Russ:
Don't be surprised at the positive responses - they are well deserved old buddy.
As you know, I'm not a C/W fan, but having grown up in a small isolated rural town, I heard a lot of Hank Williams Sr and Kitty Wells. So I'm familiar with the genre.
Frankly you did a great job - my only nit - I agree with IK Muller - there are parts where your voice needs to come out more - where you're singing solo.
As for tempo, I think one has to be careful pushing 3/4 time too fast - you've got it right.
Do you have it available in wave format? I'm wanting to do a CD for listening to when I'm driving - I'll be using a number of PG Music songs I've saved over the years.
Again, very well done.
Glenn
PS Edit - I see that you've resisted the temptation to over compress your music - good. Not only can I hear too much compression when it's done, I can see it in the wave file. No sign of it here.
