I played the piano track.

CLOSET SPACE

suppose you hadn't boarded
that delta flight back home
suppose you'd stayed with me instead
there's closet space, there's empty drawers
there's chardonnay on ice
there's satin sheets and pillows for your head
but most of all there's someone here who loves you
who will wrap you in his arms to keep you safe
sometimes i just tread water
and all i have to offer
is my heart
and some closet space

there's room for your piano
we'll buy a plant or two
and some paint, we can share a brush
we'll put a dog door in for carter
and your name above the bell
no doubt, the place could use your touch
but most of all there's someone here who loves you
who will do anything he can to keep you safe
sometimes i'll just tread water
and the most i'll have to offer
is my heart
and some closet space

most of all there's someone here who loves you
who will do anything he can to keep you safe
sometimes we'll just tread water
and the best i'll have to offer
is my heart
and some closet space

Thanks for Listening.
Type something.

Hi Floyd
What a great song
Reminded me of John Waite - Figure In A Landscape at the beginning.
Everything is just right here...
Vocals, band, sound and melody
In Germany we say "Das ist großes Kino - This is great cinema"
Perfect work Floyd
Many greetings
Andi ;-)

Floyd...you sure have mastered the piano in this one...perfect...as usual your gift for lyric and storytelling is superb...if this isn't radio worthy...well I don't know music I suppose...but even if I don't...I know what I like and this is a bull's eye for me! the melody is gorgeous...a fitting palate for the terrific lyric...tender and emotive!

That's an awesome hook, and you used it well, Floyd! Love the movement and dynamics of the melody as well. Your vocals sound like you mean it..well done

Floyd, beautiful song, beautifully performed. Solid vocals and piano. Loved the harmony, too. I can tell that a song is really, really good when the last chord plays and I can't believe it's over already: It just pulls you in and you don't want it to let go. Well done!

I once wrote a song called Master of the Game. It wasn't about Floyd, but with that title, it easily could have been!!!! If I heard this song on the radio, I would guess maybe it was written by Jimmy Webb......few writers I've ever heard (Jimmy and Floyd among those on a very small and special list) can take something apparently mundane (A lineman for the county, or closet space) and make it SOOOOO Beautiful and Touching!!!!! It is truly a special gift!!!!! This is one of the loveliest songs I've heard in many years!!!! Take a bow my friend!!!!! Take care. Greg

P.S. The arrangement and vocal really deliver!!!

Well, gee... With few "simple" piano RTs in the 2024 edition, we'll have to put up with a year of your piano playing. wink

Gentle intro, sad and wistful lyrics. Instrumentation is great, but never gets in the way of the vocal.

Nicely sung - wistful, sad and gently tugs at the heartstrings. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Gorgeous love song and I love the instrumentation.

Hi Floyd,

Very impressed with your piano playing on your last couple of songs! Just the perfect part for the song.

Excellent song, great writing, and as always a superb, heartfelt vocal.

Band sounds great, especially liked the sax.

Oh, so good. You should see my smile. It says all the ineffable things I'd like to tell you, Floyd. You have definitely become one of favorite humans. Strong piano, and all of the usual magic that you put together to make the bar so unreachable, yet beautifully inspirational.

Enjoy whatever happens!

You’re such a good writer. Singer, producer, guitarist and now pianist, the list continues to grow. Pat Marr told me you are also a talented chef. And I have heard not to bet with you on the golf course. You chase excellence like a man possessed. I kept seeing an image of Graham Nash singing this to Joni Michell in Laurel Canyon. Maybe she wouldn’t have dumped him. You are a master at these beginning or ending relationship songs. Well done in every way and worthy of many listens, Tom

Floyd,

To start off the piano playing is excellent and shows me you can do whatever you want to musically!
It's a lovely country ballad with a sweet melancholy vibe! Just the right touch with the sax solo...the room reverb? sounds just right to me!
Vocal is perfect again!
Of all of us here on the forum I feel your work should have a huge spotlight on it...on a national stage! Somebody's going to make you famous someday!

Take care, TB

I echo all the comments about your piano playing!
Beautiful and passionate love song.

I love the chorus hook:
"and the most i'll have to offer
is my heart
and some closet space"

That's gold.

Floyd, this is the best sad love song I have heard in a long time.
Outstanding vocal.
You picked the perfect backing band to set the mood!
You piano was also outstanding.
Everything about this was professional.
Loved it.
