Floyd, beautiful song, beautifully performed. Solid vocals and piano. Loved the harmony, too. I can tell that a song is really, really good when the last chord plays and I can't believe it's over already: It just pulls you in and you don't want it to let go. Well done! I once wrote a song called Master of the Game. It wasn't about Floyd, but with that title, it easily could have been!!!! If I heard this song on the radio, I would guess maybe it was written by Jimmy Webb......few writers I've ever heard (Jimmy and Floyd among those on a very small and special list) can take something apparently mundane (A lineman for the county, or closet space) and make it SOOOOO Beautiful and Touching!!!!! It is truly a special gift!!!!! This is one of the loveliest songs I've heard in many years!!!! Take a bow my friend!!!!! Take care. Greg

I think I already mentioned this with your last piano song: if you keep improving on the piano like this, you'll be the next Elton John.
Lyrically and vocally, you're already there anyway.

Well, gee... With few "simple" piano RTs in the 2024 edition, we'll have to put up with a year of your piano playing.  Gentle intro, sad and wistful lyrics. Instrumentation is great, but never gets in the way of the vocal. Nicely sung - wistful, sad and gently tugs at the heartstrings. Thanks, David, Wow Thanks, James.

We often throw the word “arrangement” around rather loosely but this one is so strong we’ll toss it out again.
Great arrangement!
It is no surprise that your vocals are heartfelt and impeccably phrased.
We always enjoyed your vocal within a piano arrangement.
However your recent work on the keys has taken it to an even more wonderful place.
Nice cello and fiddle too.
And that melody!

You’re such a good writer. Singer, producer, guitarist and now pianist, the list continues to grow. Pat Marr told me you are also a talented chef. And I have heard not to bet with you on the golf course. You chase excellence like a man possessed. I kept seeing an image of Graham Nash singing this to Joni Michell in Laurel Canyon. Maybe she wouldn’t have dumped him. You are a master at these beginning or ending relationship songs. Well done in every way and worthy of many listens, Tom Who wouldn't love a "review" like this????!!! I'm still cooking, but haven't picked up a golf club in several years (they keep going by so quickly!) Joni seems to be making "final appearances" - so there's still hope.... Hope all is well down your way....

To start off the piano playing is excellent and shows me you can do whatever you want to musically!
It's a lovely country ballad with a sweet melancholy vibe! Just the right touch with the sax solo...the room reverb? sounds just right to me!
Vocal is perfect again!
Of all of us here on the forum I feel your work should have a huge spotlight on it...on a national stage! Somebody's going to make you famous someday!

I applaud your progress with keys! NICE! Fantastic arrangement, sax was a very nice touch. Lyrics are easy to grasp without cheating. Strong vocals. Good one, definitely not a passthrough tune. Mix is clear & easy listen. Thank you for sharing.

Simple and wistful, full of elegance from chardonnay to satin sheets. "the best i'll have to offer/is my heart/and some closet space" I wish I could express as much with as few words.
The arrangement has lots to offer, cello & sax & piano work together in a very pleasing way. And vocal delivery is emotional singing straight from the heart and to the listeners' hearts.
