Valentine's Day is coming, so ... I thought I'd write a love song. To be more accurate: I woke up at 5 a.m. with this idea in my head, and (since I have nothing to do until 11 a.m. - it's 7:11 a.m., as I type) it was a choice between staying in bed, or writing this. I hope to goodness I've chosen the right thing to do? smile Anyway, here's a love song from me ... Delsono-style, haha wink Hope you enjoy it, anyway smile - thanks for listening ...and thank you, once more, PG Music ... miracle workers, you really are.

If I've Not Love

EDIT: edited again, 12 February 2024. I hope that this is the final version. Tweaked the effects, so that the voice is pushed to the front and comes through, and applied the reverb only to the backing track, so that it supports the voice. Hope this now works ...

LYRICS:

The other night, I almost gave up on you
Because I haven't heard a thing from you in a while,
So I thought I would go find somebody else,
Who would comfort me, hold me ... maybe walk to me, down the aisle ...

But then a friend, who I know well, wrote this stunning song,
The lyrics of, they stabbed me through the heart,
And so I thought that I would give you one more chance,
Just in case you, too, are dreaming of a brand new start ...

For if I speak, in so many ways, but have no love,
It matter not what else it be that I may do,
If I know everything, or if I trust, or even if I sacrifice myself,
It matter not, for my love for you is the only thing I know is true ...

And so I wait, one more day, one more lonely night,
With my hope dwindling, with every moment, every time that passes by ...
Perhaps you're late ... perhaps your pen ran out of ink ...
Perhaps you're telling me to wait, for you are on your way ...

Don't be too late, please do not play with my lonely heart,
For you are playing with everything I've got ...
I'll wait for you, just one more night, I hope I'm right ...
For my friend's song may mean "hello", but "goodbye" too, I thought ...

So, if you miss me too, alike I dream, then please don't hide it all from me ...
I know you've pride, and perhaps fear, but love is so much more important, you see ...

For if I speak, in so many ways, but have no love,
It matter not what else it be that I may do,
If I know everything, or if I trust, or even if I sacrifice myself,
It matter not, for my love for you is the only thing I know is true ...

I'll wait for you.

I can tell you're enjoying the process, James.
There are some strange sounding chords every now and again which maybe you should check out.

Thank you, Vic. Sometimes, BIAB plays a slightly different chord to what I write, hence the strange-sounding stuff. I'll see if I can clean it up. Thanks for listening - and yes, I'm having fun! I hope we all are, when creating music, right? smile

James, a great Valentine's day love song.
Did you change those weird chords? I didn't hear any weird chords. Maybe I missed them?
A love song done is the Delsono genre!
Excellent job.

James, really nice tune! Really like the FX chain you ended up using for your vocals. Gives your naturally interesting voice more depth and clarity. Also like the chord progression you used. I'm guessing you fixed whatever Vic was hearing. FWIW, there are a couple of settings you can use to coax BiaB into not improvising quite so much. I used them on most things. Enjoyed the listen, thanks for posting!

Hi James ...

What a powerfully emotional song! The vocal processing really makes your vocal stand out. I think it's the perfect compliment to your voice. This is truly beautiful and such a pleasure to listen to. You set a very high bar for the spoken word music genre.

Excellent in every way! Thanks for a warm and enticing listen.

Alan

Mario: thanks! I haven't yet managed to remove the offending chords, but I've masked them with special effects, a little smile . Thanks so much for listening!

Bob: thank you!

Ron: yes, I should have asked BIAB to play exactly what's written smile Ah well. Thanks, though, for listening and for your very nice words!

Alan: you're so kind, as always. I'm still, for what it's worth, not entirely happy with the vocal track - may just have to record it again. I've changed microphone, for this song, and I'm still not used to the new one, I guess. Anyway, thank you!!!

Thanks Floyd. I've edited the voice track a bit, hopefully for the last time, so it sounds clearer. I think I'm finally happy with it. I'm glad you enjoyed the song.

Hi, James.

As usual, a song by you that very much has your voice. And as floyd jane says, and emotional write.

My ears are still a bit congested, but it seems like you've boosted the high end. That helps with clarity, but makes some of the vocals a bit harsh, especially the "s" sound. Then again, it could just be my ears...

I love this lyric, hoping against hope:

Perhaps your pen has run out of ink...

Nice work.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi David, thanks for listening. Yeah, as I wrote above, I'm dealing with a new mic ... I'm used to the old one, haha. Yes, I did boost the high end ... didn't know what else to do to make the sound more clear, apart from re-recording it, which I would much rather avoid ... it's been tough enough, the first time around wink . And yes, thanks for spotting the "pen out of ink" lyric smile - a little irony and wryness in one's lyrics can't always hurt, right? smile Thanks so much for taking the time with this!

The backing tracks’ smooth, soft feel work great with your vocal and the sentiment of the song. It sounds like you got the new mic adjusted well. The vintage electric piano RT is especially nice.

We love the optimism in the lyric and Janice said she’s sure that the girl is on her way!😊

Kudos!

Janice and Bud: thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it. I must get used to the new mic, but it's good that I didn't butcher my first effort with it completely smile And Janice: thank you so much for that kind, final comment smile
