Sometimes I Still Think Of You

A simple song with a simple arrangement.

I spent a lot of time (a little over two hours) using BIAB's "Volume Automation" tool for calming both the acoustic guitar and acoustic piano, while trying to keep the overall volume consistent. The volume fluctuations in both were significant. It isn't as good as I'd like, but much better than it was. I intentionally left a few "soft" spots with the guitar for aural effect.

I usually have a challenge getting acoustic bass lines to be solid, but not boomy. This particular RT needed no touch-up. I left just as it was on the RT.

I think it's begging for a lyric, but so far, I have nothing. Maybe somewhere along the way, something will come to me. Anyway, here's the instrumental version.

Thanks in advance.

Alan

Alan,

What a great piece. Melancholy, brooding, thoughtful... This composition is full of emotion.

You have such a fine touch with instrumental music. It's a real gift and I love listening to your creations.

Hi Alan,

I didn't even know that BIAB had a volume automation tool! I do stuff like that in my DAW. Need to read up on the new features one of these days I guess wink

Very nice instrumental as per usual, that melodic guitar kept me engaged throughout the entire piece.

Enjoyed!

Al, this is a gorgeous progression. You are right it’s begging for a lyric. You may have dropped another seed. Well done, Tom

You still think of them and it sounds great with this pensive playing. Love the soft thoughts of reverie and the undertow of life's experience. At least that's what I hear when I read your mind in this beauty, Alan. Lyrics would confine the ineffable effect your thinking has in this piece.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Alan, wow, an extended instrumental with the nylon guitar RT so far in front is like walking a high wire without a safety net. But like the musical Wallenda you are, you not only made it across, but treated as all to a greatly entertaining time. Very cool song, expertly arranged and mixed. Fantastic job (again)!

It's definitely a relaxing track, Alan. Would you use the title for the hook should you add lyrics to it someday or is it just a place holder?

Hi Dave,

Well, I just discovered the Volume Automation a week or so back. I know it's been there for a while ... maybe 2022?

Thanks for the very kind comments!

HI Tom,

Thank you very much. It was an enjoyable effort. And you never know what a seed might grow into. We'll see what happens with that!

Best to you,

Hello Marty, my friend ...

Two things struck me about your comment:

1. the word pensive - that's the exact mood I was trying to induce.
2. undertow of life's experiences - spent too much time there. We've buried three children. Had to beat cancer ... other stuff, but won't start whining about all that. But it all has influenced my life and my music.

Thank you so much for the lovely thoughts about the song. They touched me.

All the best,

Alan

Hi Ron,

It's hard to thank you enough for all those encouraging comments. Although I enjoyed the process, it had its moments. But the balancing act of emotions won the day.

Thank you so much

Bi Dewey,

It's always good to hear from you - and to hear your music.

Should a lyric evolve from this, I would leave the title of the song in the hands of the lyrical author. The music is simply a foundation for telling the author's story. Every building has a foundation, but most have different titles - that's my analogy.

I appreciate the really nice comments!

Best to you.

Alan

Hi Elliott,

Thank you very much! I've owned probably 12 or 15 guitars over the years (favorites were a '54 Tele and an ES-175 - 1966 model), but I've never owned a nylon string guitar. I might have to do something about that! But, my next purchase is going to be a bass. I have a few songs for which BIAB RTs don't have a bass line that works for them. Of course, I could call on Marty!

Thank you for your kindness!

Wishing you the very best,

Alan
