I have a fundamental question that hounds me every so often and now is one of those times.
Let's say I want the following pattern: kick-snare-kick-kick-snare-kick-snare-kick-kick-snare, etc. In the world of drumming, does this pattern have a name? Is it possible to filter or search for RealDrums that meet this pattern?
"Beat #3" in this video is close to what I'm looking for. But I'd like to "crack the code" and be able to easily find other common patterns in BiaB such as kick-snare-kick-kick-kick-snare-kick-snare-kick-kick-kick-snare, etc.

The RealDrums Picker in Band-in-a-Box does not have search filters that can look for specific drum patterns.
I believe this has been requested before but not as specifically as you've asked. Should you decide to make a wishlist request for the RealDrums Picker to have a search filter for specific drum patterns I will be happy to support the request.
I think you are affirming that there is some need for improvement here. I don't have EZDrummer.

I would value such a feature as well. This has been discussed before, but I’m not sure how the search term would be entered. An audio snippet?
If you make a request in the Styles and RealTracks Wishlist Forum, complete with one or more audio or MIDI samples, or links to performances, PG Music might even be able to tell you if such a RealDrum already exists. Or another user might recognize the pattern.
BIAB 2024 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 6.5 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6; Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Roland Integra-7, Presonus Studio 192, Presonus Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors
Steve, Steven Slates SSD-5 drums are coming out with an AI program what will do exactly what you are requesting BiaB to do. One would bring in a bass or rhythm track into SSD-5 and it will select a number of drum patterns that match said tracks. It is a free upgrade so when I get it, supposedly next month, I will let you know how it works.
If you put this request in the wishlist forum you will get a big +1 from me for both RTs and MIDI.
{edit} I see that Matt and I were typing at the same time!

It is almost impossible to search for a specific drum pattern or drum groove in BIAB if you are looking for something specific like a close match for a specific pattern. I no longer even try to use it. It is a complete wase of time and you are not getting any closer for what you are looking for.
It is surpringsing that there are no development in this direction since rhythm is such a basic component of the fundamets of a song.
as an example in EZD3 there are several options to help out:
Mini visual pattern Midi layout of the pattern Tap to find Drop a midi sequence to find similar Drop an audio or audio sequense of the song or the various instruments to find similar Edit the midi and then do refined search, or create a pattern and do a refined search.. Multi dimensional refined filter search (fri text, packages, genre, play style, music type, time signature, drumset component ..)
I wished that some of these features were available in BIAB. (I have posted similar views in the whishlist before)

Thank you Jim, I was hoping that a deeply buried option somewhere in the program would allow this. Thanks for confirming

Matt, Mario and shlind, thanks also for confirming this. I will re-post in the wishlist area and I know you and others will be able to articulate the request better than I can.
Mario, yeah I'd be interested in the Steven Slates thing you mention, do keep us posted. But I see two big advantages of using RealDrums:
1. I understand that these were actual recordings made by world-class drummers, and I admire everything I've heard from them so far. Stated another way, I have no desire at all for having them replaced.
2. There is a good probability that when using a RealDrum that you can then find supporting instruments (like strings, guitar, etc.) that will blend nicely with said RealDrum. I'll probably never know exactly how this blending is accomplished, but imo it's what makes BiaB so unique.
I know that both of these can be satisfied by other means, be they virtual instruments or physical instruments but for me there is power, harmony and (mostly) simplicity with BiaB.

Steve, all I was trying to do is to state that others, SSD-5 for instance, are working on AI that will do what you want BiaB to accomplish. I am not trying to persuade anyone into changing their workflows.

Yep, I understand. And I was unaware of SSD, thanks.

Have you thought of creating the track in BIAB, regardless of the drums the style uses, then going over to RB. Import the file into RB, mute the unwanted BIAB track drum track and then you can create exactly the drum track you want with the drum grid editor. It's midi but i find midi drums fine in a mix. And you can fill as many bars as you like so the input of the drums into the drum grid editor is not as time consuming as you might think. You save the drum pattern as a dg file. Whether you can import a dg file into BIAB I don't know but it would be a neat trick if you can!
