I am currently having difficulties with BIAB.
This time I am trying to regenerate the selected track/bar with F8.

I have selected the track and then highlighted the bar,
both with freeze on and off, but the bar doesn't change after multiple attempts.
This is a RealTrack.

Any ideas?

Have you tried the return to factory settings?
Options/Return to Factory Settings/most

That may solve your problem.

Also make sure the overwrite is checked in the F8 window:

Thanks for helping Mario!
I am usually reluctant to use the band-aid factory settings reset option.
People have helped me the past few weeks changing many settings.
Some have worked some haven't.
But I got to my current settings after implementing a lot of stuff.
I would lose all of that by resetting it, on the slim chance it would fix this problem.
Overwrite was checked.

I did the reset, got an error message and BIAB did a complete CRASH!!!

Restarted BIAB.
Tried the Ctrl-F8 and BIAB just kept playing the exact same bars over and over, no change at all.

So that I can get a clearer picture and try to reproduce your problem...
  1. When you say you highlight the bar, whereabouts do you highlight it? Is it on the chordsheet, in Audio Edit or in 2024's new Track View?
  2. What chord or chords does the bar contain?
  3. What is the number of the Realtrack number?

Thanks for helping out again Noel.
I don't think there has been a single session that has gone by since I installed BIAB 2024
where I didn't encounter a problem. frown

I am in chordsheet mode when I highlight the bar.
You shouldn't have to ask what the chords are. They're my fave ones! smile
/AmMaj7 Am6/
Realtrack number 742 Piano.

I don't know if this is related to the problem.
Each time I unfreeze the track and press Ctrl-F8,
after regeneration, the track freezes again BY ITSELF!
Is it supposed to do that? If so why?

Hi again smile

I tried it in Audio Edit and the Chordsheet and the regeneration of the bar is working okay for me.

To be honest, I prefer doing regeneration in Audio Edit as (a) I can see what is happening and (b) there are a lot of tools available in Audio Edit that are very useful. With this in mind, if you have a few minutes to spare, could you please try the following?

1) Open Audio Edit (#1 on the image).
The image shows my display in Standard View mode. CTRL+T will toggle between full-screen and standard views if you want to switch to my view.

2) Select "Snap" (this will snap the cursor to the nearest 1/16th of a beat in even time) (#2).

3) Select the piano's track (#3).
If no wav form is visible on the piano track, you will need to regenerate the whole song first

4) In the black region of the wav's track, drag the mouse across the bar with the AmM7, Am6 chord to select that region (#4).

5) Click on Edit (#5) to open Audio Edit's 'tool box'.

6) Select generate (#6) and then "Select and Generate Realtracks" (#7).

Steps 1 – 6 relate to IMAGE 1.
Step 7 relates to IMAGE 2.

7) In the Regeneration Window, check that the track is correct (#8) and then regenerate (#9).
(a) The regeneration window should be above the wav display.
(b) If it isn't, drag the regenerate window up the screen so that so that you can see the wave.
(c) When you regenerate the wav, watch the wav form on the screen. It should change and represent the new sound.
(d) After the regeneration is done, the track will automatically be frozen so that the regeneration is preserved and not lost when the whole song is regenerated.
(e) It is not necessary to unfreeze the track then regenerating in the Audio Edit window.

Thanks again Noel for taking the time to help. smile
I tried all of your steps above.
I followed everything except #7.
I don't know what is the 'Regeneration Window'?

My screen shows two waves, one on top of the other.
Is the regen window the top wave?
Yes the track was freezing on each pass. I ignored it as you suggested.
I was able to hear many different takes this time using your method.

However, the whole reason I wanted to do this exercise was to get a legit AmMaj7 chord to sound.
None of the takes wanted to cooperate. frown

So this method won't be of help to me.
As I mentioned in another thread, I was finally able to get a mMaj7 chord to sound.
It was back when I was using the Organ sound.

But my faith in BIAB has taken a hit. I can't, on demand, key in a mMaj7 chord and hear it being played.

Sorry. I accidentally left #7 out of Step 6. I've made the correction now.
It's necessary to click on #7 to open the regeneration window (which is shown in IMAGE 2).
Step 7 is the important step as this is where you do the actual regenerating of the selected region.

Hi Noel.
I followed all your steps and get different regenerations.
I did it 10 times this time.
Not once was a mMaj7 chord played though.
I'm sure if I did it 50 times I still wouldn't hear it.

I think this time I'll leave this thread 'Unsolved' until someone can help me get an AmMaj7 chord to sound with the piano.

Just a suggestion - are we back to the RT in question not actually having the chord you want recorded? BIAB can take any chord entry - thanks to its midi origins - but unless the musician played what you want you'll never hear it. Can you import a midi piano from another style and see what happens?

I agree with Bob. I've tried many times and I can't get RT 742 to create AmMaj7. Because of this, I suspect that the original artist did not record this chord. Playable Realtracks, though, should be able to modify the chord to create the major 7th. This would mean manually editing each chord and freezing the track after each change. Provided there is only a single instrument, it would be straightforward. If there were multiple rhythm instruments, though, the process would take a bit more time since each instrument would need to be addressed individually.

The below video clips explains Playable Realtracks. There are a couple of sections that relate to them. The first section begins at approximately 9:00 minutes into the clip and deals with solo notes. The next section follows on from this and deals with chords. It's definitely worth watching.

Regards,
--Noel

There are several methods to get these chords.
Use Playable RealTracks, (BIAB has a Playable RealTrack to use for RT742)
Use a SuperMidi piano rather than RT742 which may recognize the specific chord correctly or
Generate a Hi-Q piano to get the chords rather than use RT742.

Save the RT742 track as either a WAV or Artist Performance File to preserve it and it can be imported back into the SGU to then copy/paste the specific chords created using one of the methods above onto the RealTrack 742 in the appropriate Bars using the Audio Edit Window..

It's also possible other RealTrack Pianos may be tested over the Chord Sheet and that session artist did play these specific chords and the instrument sounds close enough to the original RealTrack to copy/paste that chord over the original. Audition other RealTracks by the same session artist even if the Style is different. There may be a usable chord in another Style.

Thanks very much Bob, Noel and Charlie for your suggestions.
I am going to look into all of them today.

This whole 'process' has piqued my curiosity about RealTracks in general.
I'm going to start a new thread asking questions about them shortly.

Not true. Navigate to Options > Save Preferences As ... and a window opens that allows you to apply a name and save the current settings. When you want to apply the settings navigate to Options > Open Preferences.

Also Band-in-a-Box has a safe mode. Safe mode tells the program to ignore your current settings and use the factory settings instead. This is all done in memory so after you've completed testing in Safe mode you can return the program to normal operation.

How To Use Safe Mode
Put a blank text file called safemode.txt in the bb\Preferences folder and then open the program.
To stop using Safe mode close the program and rename or delete the blank safemode text file.
When you open the program you will go back to using your usual settings.

Right I remembered that.
I was down the Factory Reset rabbit hole suggestion a couple of weeks ago for another problem.
It didn't work though. And it didn't work in this case when I tried it. frown

If natural arrangements are turned off in song settings, then it will play the mMaj7 chord.

Thanks, Andrew. I did not see that coming. I am going to go back and edit my Tips and Tricks post about BIAB not quite playing the chords we wrote. I mentioned Natural Arrangement but have never heard this clear a statement about it. I'm puzzled, though: in some genres like Brazilian jazz, a mMaj7 chord is perfectly 'natural' = expected.
