Much heartened by the kind comments received on our first post (sweet poverty), I've gone ballistic on this one! This is one of our 'Epics' and I suggest a cup of Tea/Coffee/Something Stronger as it is just over seven minutes of music. This is the Wild West fantasy of The Rider who rides into town to avenge all the wrongs that have gone unpunished. If that's a bit over-the-top for you, just think Clint Eastwood in High Plains Drifter! Hope you enjoy our view of the Old Wild West (and apologies if you don't)
Carol & Steve, a very interesting cowboy song. You have taken non-western sounding instruments and made a great western song out of them. Loved that flute! Nice guitar lead. The B3 was great. Great vocals and harmonies. I would have never thought of using a flute, B3, and pounding drums in a western song - brilliant work!

Hi Mario, Thank you for your comments, we’re so pleased you liked it! The song exists in my head as a movie ~ it’s fun to make a piece of music that’s visual - if only inside the imagination !
Very cool song! Sergio Leone would be proud. Another excellent vocal and instrumental performance. Great job mixing up the arrangement in the long narrative form and keeping it interesting. Especially loved the acoustic guitar work and the little minor runs and countermelodies. Nice one!
Ditto the "movie in my head" approach to visualizing songs as I write them...

Excellent musical storytelling. Don't be afraid of length if the piece requires it. I've just worked out that my average track time over my favourite 24 tracks is 5:55, with the shortest being 3:50 and the longest 8:16. There's lots of recorded music out there which range from over 8 minutes to over an hour long, not counting classical. I enjoy listening to long playlists with headphones on, so when I'm in the zone I really love to flow with longer tracks. My only criticism of "Sundown" is that it would have sounded more authentic if Carol could have sung with an American accent ~ though I allow as how I reckon that don't make no never-mind.
Some favourite Waoist Adages: #1: Play on the Way. #17: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you. #69: Bring consciousness to it. #74: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made. #105: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.
I have just seen a documentary on Ennio Morricone (Ennio - 2021 documentary film directed by Giuseppe Tornatore) which I recommend to all admirers of his music. He wrote the music for Sergio Leone's films. If the style is close to western music, there is sometimes a slightly medieval accent. It’s very well sung, so bravo!
Good old Ennio! (Sergio and Clint too!) Laurent4114, thank you for taking the time to listen and to comment positively- it’s great to know that people have enjoyed something that we created
WaoBand, thank you very much for your comments, I’m glad you liked ‘Sundown’! The idea that Carol could sing in an American accent has made us both laugh - we struggle with English! I’m from the North East of the UK and consider ourselves a race apart! I particularly appreciate your endorsement of long form songs - it’s what I prefer if the story (or head movie) can support it. Happy Trails Pard’ner (see, told you it wouldn’t work!)
DCRon, thank you for your support! Sundown is one of our oldest songs and has grown a bit from our old folk club days. BIAB allowed me to develop a sonic idea (if that doesn’t sound too pretentious) which I could not otherwise have done.
Alan - ‘a most delightful listen’ : I’ll take that happily! Thanks for listening , commenting and validating the fact that in having images in my head while songwriting I’m not alone! I’ll look out for you on the Best Seller shelves!
Wow, Carol & Steve, somehow I missed you first one, so wwnt there first. I would MOST emphatically want to hearten you even more. hehe Much enjoyed!
A wonderful melody and super harmonoes. The band is super and I love your playing. It all comes together in a terrific presentation. Did you say this was long? It's a great story to be told, and it wasn't even until 8:03 that I actually checked the song --but I wasn't done with it. Outstanding vocals guys.
