What happens if at the bar you change to the _RYEGRAS 4/4 style, that you also enter 4 beats to the bar in Bar Settings?

I seem to recall the song must start with a 4/4 Style, change to 3/4 style and then to a 4/4 style. The opening 4/4 Style can be trimmed away after rendering so the audio render will appear to be a 3/4 that changes to 4/4.
Stop Press: It didn't work for me either, it kept playing 3/4 time.
I'll report it. Also, the buttons have been made larger in the 2024 version and they partially cover the style name text. I just don't understand how this gets through QC.

Slightly Off topic, I also don't know why they introduced two 'Apply' buttons on the same form in the 2024 version?

Good point, Charlie, but I thought that rule was for using the same style, e.g. you could take a beat off a 4/4 style to make it 3/4, but this is for changing to a different style altogether. This is changing Styles from a 3/4 Style (_CAMPFIRE) to a 4/4 Style (_RYEGRAS). There should not be such a restriction. I'll do some more experimenting...

2: On Bar 1, use <F5> (bar settings) to change the style to _CAPSIZE and the beats/bar to 3 (otherwise you get a 4/4 count in) You probably get a message just to use the 3/4 style in the first place, but it's clear that this doesn't work, so just ignore it.
3: On Bar 9, use <F5> (bar settings) to change the style to __RYEGRAS and the beats/bar to 4 _________________________________________
Printing the Bar Settings should look like this:
**** Band-in-a-Box Report of Changes in the song at any bar ****** Song Title is: _CAPSIZE Demo - Capsize 12-String Campfire Waltz, File Name is E:\bb\AAA_MySongs\Development\_CAPSIZE DoesNotChangeTo4BeatsAtBar9.SGU [Sun, 31 Mar 2024 22:49:18] Bar 1: TimeSig to 3/4. Bar 1: All Choruses,,Style Change to: _CAPSIZE.STY
Bar 9: TimeSig to 4/4. Bar 9: All Choruses,,Style Change to: _RYEGRAS.STY

Update: If you have the 2020 version, then I think you are stuck with a 4/4 count-in for a 3/4 song. The count-in to match the number of beats in the first bar was not implemented until 2024.

I have tried your workaround but it does not work.
When I get to step 2 and change bar 1 to use the 3/4 style and the no of beats to 3, I get a message after apply that changing bar 1 style will change the overall song style. And so it does.
So far, all attempts have been futile.
This song is the Old Rugged Cross and the first bars are in 3/4 but it then changes to 4/4. Ideally, in the same style but I have not found any solution thus far.
Best regards Bernt
Band in a Box Latest: ULTRA 2020 (734) on Win 10 And: MEGA 2020 (720) on Windows 7
It seems to give a sort of working solution for my song requirements when just selecting _RYGRAS for the song and then on bar one, change # of beats to 3.
On bar 9 then change # of beats back to 4.
But changing the style does not work, as above.
Best regards Bernt

Yes, that method will work. You can take one of more beats away from a style, but you cannot add a beat (you cannot make a 3/4 style play in 4/4).
They have probably made changes to the way all of this works over the past few years.

I suggest doing this using the MultiStyle function so setting Part Markers to make Style changes. This method may be more suitable to the BIAB algorithm. Start with a 4/4 and change to 3/4 with Part Markers.

You're probably stuck with a 4/4 count-in using that method if you are running the 2020 version.

Could you explain the steps to do this please, Charlie?

Load a 4/4 song for two bars to trim from the rendered audio Use Bar Settings to change to a 3/4 Style Use Bar Settings to change back to a 4/4 Style if necessary
OK, thanks Charlie. When you mentioned "setting Part Markers to make Style changes", I got confused with how the Part Markers created the style changes, but I think you are actually using Bar Settings to do this. Is that correct?

That's correct Trevor but it can also be done using Part Markers to change the Style. In this project, using Bar Settings was faster and easier. A BIAB song can have up to 24 different Part Marker assignments that can be used in the same manner as the normal a- and b- substyles.
These Part Markers can be used to program and control Styles or RealTracks or both.
I commented before I tested and in response to your request, I saw that Bar Settings was the simplest example.
Thanks Charlie for clarifying. I haven't ever used Part Markers to program and control Styles or RealTracks, in fact, I didn't even know that was possible. It's perhaps something I need to study up on to find out exactly how it works Any starter clues?

For those who may not be familiar with MultiStyles, they are a popular arrangement programming format of PG Style developers. I think of MultiStyles as the next level up from the classic and basic Blue/Green substyles everyone's familiar with.
Besides this familiar view and use to change a song's substyle, Part Markers can be used to program the RealTrack Medley Maker, used for display purpose only (no action assigned to the Part Marker), add additional Bass and Drum patterns, modify an existing style, change a style completely, change key signature, change feel or time signature and assign sections to a song, like intro, verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge and outro. They also serve as markers to easily reconfigure the song structure.
I once created a custom MultiStyle to arrange 9 different RT bass instruments of a cover of Stealers Wheel "Everything will turn out fine" It created the same arrangement on a single track to match an arrangement made using 9 bass tracks and F5 Bar Settings to mute/ Return to Normal.
Another example is to arrange a instrumental Solo instead of comping the solo from multiple track recordings.
I've enclosed some example screen shots of pre-made PG Music MultiStyles. The most common, one Style Change to have four substyles, a, b, c, d for (c) Intro, (a) verse, (b) Chorus and (d) bridge, soloist or outro.
The 2nd example PG pre-made MultiStyle expands the substyles to eight. A song can have as many as 24 substyles.
