Not to long ago I noticed that my BIAB 2022 shrinks the notation window font size every time I open BIAB regardless of whether it is the same song file or not. The notation options font % reduces. It continues until the staff appears as a single very thin line. In other words you do not have to view that screen and it still reduces it.
It never did this in prior versions and to be honest I don't remember it happening in this version before. It is definitely not the song files because I can cause it to happen while togging the open between two song files.
I had BIAB 2022 and that is not an issue I recall coming across. Have you installed the latest build for BIAB 2022? It's update/build #927. You can check what build you are currently running by having a look at "Help | About Band In A Box". It will be in parentheses after Version 2022
Thanks for reminding me to do that update. Unfortunately it did not fix the issue.
I am thinking I should email support and ask them if they can come in with what I think might be called remote computer control to see if they can figure it out. Even if a factory reset fixes it that is not the proper way to go about fixing issues as my factory reset list of to-do items takes well over 10 minutes to complete.
+++ In the past +++ Andrew with PG Music has suggested using safe mode to test if the Return to Factory Settings" may solve your issue.
Quote
1. Close Band-in-a-Box. 2. Add a file called safemode.txt to the Preferences folder. (contents of the file doesn't matter) 3. Boot Band-in-a-Box, and you should see red text confirming that it is in "safe mode". This just means it is running at factory settings. You can do a test to see if the problem happens, and then you can close Band-in-a-Box and delete the file and you won't have made any changes to your settings.
I did what you said and got it to work so it says safe mode when it come up.
It does set the font to 70 every time it comes up. While in safe mode I tried changing it to 200 but it gets ignored and forces it to 70 on the next start of a song which I would expect.
I am thinking I should probably contact them regardless. If they tell me to reset to factory settings I assume they don't have a solution and are too busy to investigate. But on the other hand they might want to resolve it and appreciate my sacrificing my time to allow them to do so as my guess is that could take longer than doing a factory reset and putting all my parameters back in. I think I will point them to this thread and see what they say.
When you initiate: "Options > Return to Factory Settings", the program automatically creates a back up file of your current preferences. Of course if you are using the option you are assuming the preferences are corrupt and who wants to reload assumed corrupt preferences.
But "Options" also contains two menu items you may not have used before: "Save Preferences As ..." and "Open Preferences". These two options allow you to save a known good preference file under your custom file label and to load the file anytime you want or need to.
For reference, the preference files are saved at: /bb > data > Util > Templates.
Every time I purchase the annual Band-in-a-Box update I perform a "Return to Factory Settings" command and then create a new preference file. That way, if I have an issue I can use the command and load my known good, personal preference file. Initiating both commands takes less than 1 1/2 minutes on a very slow computer.
That is a great idea. PGMusic Support might want to use your email message for creating a popup to be displayed when ever the user executes a factory reset or an initial install or both :-) A popup that can be turned off once the habit is established.
You are correct. I was not aware BIAB had this feature. It is basically what I started doing with the MultiCharts program when they eventually put in the "Save your user settings feature" along with the "Return Your User Settings feature". I started using the "Save your user settings feature" every time I made a personal settings improvement and I have a reminder database entry which helps keep me remembering to do that (keep the habit). Before they put that feature in I was doing exactly what I do with BIAB now "document my features so I can redo it". But MultiCharts is so stable now due to a totally different type of user base demanding it that I never have to return the user backup except if I replace the hard drive or for some reason I have to do a disk reformat.
A Plan: So I guess based upon what you are saying is I should **back up my user settings now.
**Do a partial factory reset. Note: This did not fix the problem So I skipped to the full reset. **Return my user settings. **Determine if the issue is fixed. **If the issue is fixed skip to the habit below.
**Do a full factory reset. Note: This did not fix the problem So I skipped to the support suggestion. **Return my user settings. **Determine if the issue is fixed. **If the issue is fixed skip to the habit below.
**Try what BIAB supports suggested. **Do a factory reset (Partial or Full or both). **close Band-in-a-Box, **go to your bb\Preferences folder (usually C:\bb\Preferences, but it can start with a different letter other than C if you installed to an external drive), **delete the following two files: Mysetup.dk intrface.bbw **Determine if the issue is fixed. Note: This did not fix the problem So I returned my preferences and let Support know it failed but safe mode worked. **If the issue is fixed skip to the habit below.
**Do a full factory reset. **Determine if the issue is fixed. **Enter my user settings manually using my documentation as my guide. **Determine if the issue is fixed. **If the issue is fixed do a DateTime Stamp user backup immediately and skip to the habit below.
Let BIAB support the problem persists.
A Habit: **Create a reminder database entry to remind me to do a BIAB user settings backup regularly and when ever I make a user settings change. **Create a .bat copy script to copy this file to an Access folder for multi machine backup.
Which Windows OS do you have? Specifically which version and build of Band-in-a-Box do you have right now - Confirm in the Help | About screen. Are you running bbw.exe (32bit version) or bbw64.exe?
I am using Windows 7 and will be using it until MuitiCharts no longer runs on it.
I typically run BIAB 32 bit but I can also run 64 bit. On the notebook I run BIAB 2016 and would never have any need for the notation screen. I am considering but hesitating to install BIAB 2022 on the notebook.
I will go a head and test this issue now on the 64 bit. It does it on the 64 bit as well.
