I have been working on making a backing track for a pretty simple song- America's "Horse with no Name". I couldn't find a bass line I really liked so I recorded my own and inserted it. Voila. Today I went and recorded vocals harmonies, but as soon as I import them into a different utility track labeled "backing vox" the bass track moves out of its spot in the mix- throws off the whole timing. There's no way that I can see to freeze or lock my "Utility Track" where I put the bass originally, the BiaB bass part has been muted.
I probably can't advise because I normally use a DAW to assemble BIAB tracks, but can you tell us HOW MUCH is the timing off? That could provide a clue.
BIAB 2025 Win Audiophile. Software: Studio One 7 Pro, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Presonus 192 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Slate VSX, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.
If you have the windows version of BIAB, you get RealBand which is much easier (at least to me!) when it comes to recording - all tracks are equal and there' no messing about - choose a track and record on it. Your BIAB file will open in RB and then you can start recording.
My approach is to export my BiaB tracks using "Save Special" to .m4a or .wav format and then drag them into my DAW (Studio One). Once in my DAW, nothing is muted that I don't want muted and I'm free to move them left or right in the timeline to my liking. Likewise I can also record instruments or vocals in my DAW and move them at will to where I want.
"Freezing" is not required and I have all the volume and panning automation I need.
I find this approach flexible and completely unrestraining.

my songs....mixed for good earbuds...(fyi..my vocs on all songs..) https://soundcloud.com/alfsongs (90 songs created useing bb/rb) (lots of tips of mine in pg tips forum.)
Sorry gang I noticed my signature was over 10 years old, so I have updated that to current. Here is a link to a brief video Screen shot that describes the issue I am having. Hope it's not too small to read.
This is the 'before' and everything is working as it should. The T_Bird bass is a track I recorded in Reaper, then inserted on a utility track and tweaked to get it into position. The 'dual leads' track I just recorded straight into BiaB where I wanted it, no problem there. Now, I made some harmony vocals for the 'La La's" in Reaper and tweaked them with Melodyne. I come back and open BiaB, onto a new Utility Track called "Harmony Vox", and as soon as I Import Audio, the bass track jumps ahead some random amount (half a measure?) and the vocal, which I told to begin on bar 21 is some totally other place. Exit without saving.
Not clear to me how a second sound file import could distort a previous import to a different utility track.
But BiaB can stretch imported audio if the audio master tempo is off, so try this...
Go to Tracks view and select (ie click on) one of the impacted tracks. Go to the Audio drop down menu and select Set Audio Master (Base) Tempo. When the dialogue box pops up, check to see if the tempo in the box is the same as your song's. If not, change it to 0.
Repeat the step above for your 2nd track.
If you do this in Track view with the audio waveforms visible, you can watch individual tracks stretch as you change the Audio Master Tempo.
This should only take a minute to check. Sorry I can't be more help.
Good luck!

To move your track a half measure, correctly setting Bar 1 to its correct position using the Audio Edit Window, place the curser at the correct position for Bar 1 and the track should align into the right place. The correct Bar 1 isn't always the very beginning of an audio track as there may be lead-in notes. I've posted example of Bar 1 both at the beginning and if the bar 1 follows lead-in notes.
Thanks one and all for the suggestions. I learned a little bit from each one, and think I finally have a usable track now. I have to say, though, I am still pretty frustrated with BiaB's glitchy and unpredictable performance. Often times I rename tracks and make other changes, then save and close the project. Then when I reload it, tracks are rearranged and defaulted to standard names like "Audio". I'm no power user of Reaper either but for my next project I am going to use BiaB as an insert and see how far I can get. Thanks again for your support! Dan
