The warm, rich, expressive vocal is standout in this production. Wow!
Your piano and the baritone guitar work together in an excellent manner.
All the he instruments weaving in and out is very nice And the sad fiddle, cello and your strings - yes!
Janice said she is optimistic that “she” will give “that man” one more chance 😊
Dark and moody and wonderful!

Superb.
I'm on my second listen - the first time I heard this, a few days ago, it almost floored me ... so I needed to take some time and hear it again, some other time (i.e. now).
Someone above commented on the slow tempo. I agree - a great choice. It lets the music breathe. Stunning, dark lyrics. Beautiful, achingly sad and beautiful (at the same time) ending. The harmonic progressions are nothing short of inspired. And, coupled with your storyteller's voice ... wow. Also love the long-ish, instrumental ending ... perfectly suited to this song.
Definitely one of your best, in every way.

Best 4 word review I've ever gotten. Floyd, yeah, "wow" neatly sums it up. Sad songs really are the best songs. Great vocals, and love the (mostly) acoustic instruments. The arrangement around the middle has a wonderful swirl and tension that works perfectly. Nice guitar, too! Just...wow (again). And Thanks! for that, Ron...

Perfect summary I think Excellent write, strong, emotive vocal, and really impressed with your piano playing! As good as it gets. Warms my heart, Dave. Thanks. I really like this sobriety. You never need big effects to make a good song. Laurent Thanks for listen, Laurent...

One of your top songs. Top-notch lyrics, mixed with a tender melody makes for a moving song. Convincing vocal delivery. That baritone guitar is a nice touch to the production.

Magnificent!!!! Beautifully crafted lyrics, and a sparse arrangement which builds perfectly!!!! The cello and baritone guitar are PERFECT!! It is always hard to pick a line to highlight with a FJ song......like trying to separate Miss America from the rest of the women in the pageant, but I especially loved this:
his whiskey fueled destruction a multi-headed beast
Another gem my friend!!! Take care. Greg

Wow, that piano sounds perfect, floyd --not just the way it's played, but the quality of tone and what it adds to this wonderful piece of music. I hope you forgive me not spewing my usual calvalcade of praise that when read can seem like hyperbole. But if anyone listens to this and others you do, they would understand it is hyperbole without the insincere hype. Calvalcade of praise...and...hyperbole. I'm all for that! It is the new American Way!! Truth be damned! There should be a song about that! I'm going crazy. Thanks, Marty. Always appreciated... So I'm standing on the top of the tallest building in downtown Raleigh on the edge of the roof with my toes hanging off and the firemen down below are trying to talk me down off the ledge.
They asked me what was wrong.
I told them I'd been listening to some Talking Heads and I was all pumped up but then I listened to your new song and I wanted to shoot myself.
Do you have any final thoughts?? Is there even the tiniest light at the end of this long, dark, stench-filled tunnel of grief, alcoholism, despair and men treating women horribly?
No just kidding man. This is a really sad, sad, sad, sad song but it's a great sad song, and the piano playing is just beautiful. Gorgeous sound overall.
But next time can you do something really redneck with some loud redneck guitars and some redneck lyrics that don't really make any sense but are super happy??
😂 One of my goals these days is to keep you on the edge. It's where your brilliance shines. Next time... Sure! I can do redneck! Well...first I have to see if ChatGirl can do redneck. I'm sure she can. MAN! she writes fast! Its flowery and doesn't really say anything original or connected, but, hey.... Oh how we suffer.

Floyd,
I always admire how clean and open your productions are. It's really highlighted here on this sad, reflective tune. Vulnerable vocal . . . and love your use of strings on this, particularly that cello. Impressed with your piano playing on this, as that piano really holds this song together. Excellent tune!!
All my best,
Deej Thanks for all of that, Deej. I appreciate the comments on the production.... Floyd you really captured me on this one. Outstanding vocal and lyrics as usual. But man you really set the mood with those backing tracks! You have always had the perfect backing bands but this one is the best. For me to say this to you is hard as you always submit fantastic songs but IMHO this one is your best to date. Loved it. Much appreciated, Mario. This is one of the times when the production came out just the way I wanted.

Really lovely instrumentation, arrangement and mix throughout. VERY real lyrics. Excellent song. Thanks, Chay. Appreciated... Floyd...just a gorgeous, thoughtful and well delivered song...I love your piano and string work...man that piano sounds exquisite...well played and a super tone as well as the strings and when they're joined by that baritone electric, fiddle and cello...well you've created a beautiful palate for another one of your stellar lyrical and melodic creations...just beautiful man! Thanks, Dan. And I much appreciate the piano mentions - coming from you (a player), means a lot...

Really nice... It immediately reminded me of Wildfire by MMM.
That is one good sounding piano VST. What exactly is it?
Very enjoyable song. Top quality all the way around. The piano is from EZKeys2 (EQ'd for the sound I was after) Wildfire? I guess we all hear things differently...hmm Lovely song Floyd. Awesome vocal and really loved the lyric. Emotional delivery and backtrack. Perfect production.. Thanks, Scott.

Masterpiece, definitely. Dark lyrics, haunting piano, strong buildup, emotional vocals. A song where its length is its strength, time to feel the pain and time to dwell in the sad empty space.

Hi' Floyd,
Everyone else has accurately described the emotion, feel, and wonderful production, vocal, arrangement, etc. I won't rehash it - other than to say I think the baritone guitar was so perfect for this. That piano guy wasn't bad, either.
But what I liked about this, perhaps not so obvious, at least to me until I reread the lyrics, was that you didn't end the song with the typically expected apology, beg to come back, forgive me, etc. It was simply an acknowledgment and ownership of the pain inflicted. No excuses, no pleading, simply self-realization and admission - which can be painful.
You should be the flagship commercial for the musical wonders that can be realized via BIAB with some savvy application. You intricately know your craft and display it so expertly. Man, you're good! I could go on, but I think you get my drift. And the best part was that I didn't have to lie or exaggerate to write a single word about the preceding words.
Alan
