This song was one of the first I made about 47 years ago, in 1976. At that time I sang the chorus with a very high voice, like a woman. Time changed all that.
I later sang it with Joanna Cooper, some years ago. But not really the same melody. Now I do it again ant this time with the fantastic support from Marty Straub on the bass guitar.

The Wind size:[14pt] https://on.soundcloud.com/uqHvBB4GnqJrmDFd9[/size]

or on YouTube:

I had to change some of the lyrics. In all those years noone told me about some tiny mistakes I made in English.
And also because of the subject. The song is about the temptation and doubts a person finds himself in, ever since his parents divorced. The distraction is symbolized by 'The Wind' and the doubts by 'The Warning'. I added a solo in it and skipped a part of the lyrics (from 'the warning'), otherwise the song became too long.
I had a lot of succes with it in that time. Even my wife fell in love with me, when she heard it, sometime in the 80's. But I will tell you later, maybe...
I wonder what you think of it,

Enjoy,
Hans

Hi, Hans.

Nice song! Upbeat and happy, and the flutes give it a very "folk" feel.

I'll be "that guy" and mention that the line should be "Come what may" (singular), but it's not a big deal. wink

Nice video, too!

Enjoyed the wind theme in the lyrics, instrumentation and video. A breezy song!

Hans,

What makes that . . . almost 50 years in the making? Well worth the wait. That chorus is so rich and compelling . . . you just want it to keep playing. Nice lead solo (though perhaps it could sit back in the mix just a very little bit). I like the BGV harmonies on the chorus, panned left . . . they are perfect and add so much. Really like this one a lot, Hans. Well done!

Wow, this is SO nice! Super song and superb vocals/harmonies. Love your vocal FX chain and vocal mix, too. The overall mix is really quite nice as well, and the ElectroFlute adds a cool whimsical touch. May want to fade the acoustic guitar sooner on the ending so the flute is the lingering instrument. Really liked this a LOT, Hans.

Loved your story about your wife falling in love with you after hearing you sing this song. I have a similar story in that my wife married me DESPITE hearing me sing. Love is a funny thing. Ha!

That's a beautiful song Hans.
I wonder who you were listening to back in 1976 and who influenced your songwriting? This song of yours proves that good music is timeless and you should now begin to think about a special version for it's 50th anniversary!
Also you could do a side hustle as a recording engineer as your mixing skills are so good.

Hi David C, Bob, Dave and Mario,

Thanks a lot of what you wrote about the song.
This old song was actually a sad song. But because of the rhythm and the kind of singing it feels like a cheerful song.
I know it was a sad song, because I made it. And it were no good times.
So it's nice to read your comments pointing in another direction. It's alive then.

Nice video, too!

David, I thought you were wrong on that point, but you're not. I was convinced that these types of statements are in the third person. Even ChatGPT, which I use to check errors, confirmed this.
But I checked again elsewhere and it was as you said. I can't change it because then I have to make a new copy of it on YT. That will be confusing. Did that once.
And about the 'folk' feeling. Read my first lines in this post. But the guitars give that feeling, that's true. Thanks!

Dave, I always liked this song. And regularly -old- friends asked about 'The Wind'. So it always was somewhere in the back of my head. And then I let Marty listen to a concept.
He immediately asked if he could play the bass part. Who can refuse such an offer. And there was 'The Wind' again...
Thanks

Mario, that is a huge compliment! I have some reservations about your characterization of it. Calling this old song my best thus far...?
But anyway, thanks a lot for that!

Have a nice day,
Hans

Hi Chay, Ray, Deej, Ron and Izzy,

Thanks for all your compliments on the song!
I am very pleased with the words you chose.

Chay, thank you for that. It's nice you like it, and the video as well. Because it isn't really your style, is it?

Ray, the Wind and the Warning were like the two creatures on my shoulder, on the left, the nice one, on the right, the nasty one.
That's what I had in mind back then. And I was the insecure one in the middle. One thing is changed by now: No one is sitting on my shoulders anymore...
I skipped one verse of the nasty one, because I added a solo and don't want the song becomes too long.
Thanks!

Deej, thanks for your comment. I was hesitating if I would ask Anne-Marie for singing the chorusses, being the Wind, but then I thought to keep the singing for myself, like then. And you like it!
That's so nice. About the volume of the solo, well... I listened to it over and over again (before your suggestion on it) and I want to keep it like this. But I appreciate this way of making suggestion about everything in the song. Thanks for that!

Ron, my wife (and I) had to laugh about your 'similair' lovestory. And yes, it just goes to show that love finds its own ways to manifest itself. But in your case it was more difficult I think...
That tail of the acoustic I did on purpose. Originally I played the song only with an acoutic guitar and I liked the idea it would 'close' the song on it's own. So, sentimental reasons. Like that?

Izzy, thanks for these very nice words. And to answer your first question, I like(d) harmonies in melodious songs, but the ones I prefered were from the BeeGees. Not everyone back then appreciated that choice, I can tell you.I hesitate if my song proves what you say. In general I agree with you, but the attention for this song is not that great. I didn't expect that either. I liked the idea of bringing this song to life and with a video too. My next songs will just be 'new' again.
And your last line is a huge compliment. It took me a long time to get the mixing challenges. Still a long way to go. Luckily I don't need a 'side hustle' (yet). Are you looking for such a person?

I will go on holidays for now, so don't know if I can do much on the forum. But in about 2 wqeeks I'm back, speaking French fluently...

See and hear you than!
Hans

Ah, come on, Hans. Tell us of how Marijke fell in love with you after hearing this one. You are right now vacationing near the same baguette point where you borrowed a guitar and first sang this wonderful song for passers-by to enjoy. Thanks for letting me fill the bass track. It was one of those songs where I could move my smiling head from side to side and feel the wind dance on my face.

Enjoy whatever happens!

When we saw that you wrote the initial versiohtn in 1976 we thought about what a great year that was as it was the year J and B met each other. 😊

Anyhow, this is lovely, Hans. Your vocals are very expressive and the electro flute and piano with the fingerpicked guitar are such a pretty combination. Marty’s bass is always a perfect match!

The sentiment of “you’re in my arms so come what may” is a sentiment that we share too.

Also, the video has truly beautiful scenery and such a pretty cat too.

We enjoyed this song’s revival,

J&B

I loved it! Apart from the small grammatical errors, which can be easily fixed, I enjoyed the lyrical premise of the song - and its musical writing. The music sounds very positive, in tone, and the lyrics are a beautiful foil for it. Your voice is really, really good, and holds well, no matter what challenges you yourself throw at it, in your writing. I liked your guitar playing, and Marty's bass guitar, too. What's not to like?

Small thing: did you use the same track when uploading to Soundcloud, as to when you did to YouTube? The Soundcloud track feels different - much more reverb, perhaps, for one - etc. . But maybe it's just my ears!

Bravi, both of you, in any case smile

Nice song, Hans!

I enjoyed the interaction between the flutes and the piano, the catchy chorus, and how the music builds in intensity.

The guitar solo sounded good, too!
