The warm, rich, expressive vocal is standout in this production. Wow!

Your piano and the baritone guitar work together in an excellent manner.

All the he instruments weaving in and out is very nice
And the sad fiddle, cello and your strings - yes!

Janice said she is optimistic that “she” will give “that man” one more chance 😊

Dark and moody and wonderful!

Superb.

I'm on my second listen - the first time I heard this, a few days ago, it almost floored me ... so I needed to take some time and hear it again, some other time (i.e. now).

Someone above commented on the slow tempo. I agree - a great choice. It lets the music breathe. Stunning, dark lyrics. Beautiful, achingly sad and beautiful (at the same time) ending. The harmonic progressions are nothing short of inspired. And, coupled with your storyteller's voice ... wow. Also love the long-ish, instrumental ending ... perfectly suited to this song.

Definitely one of your best, in every way.

And Thanks! for that, Ron...

One of your top songs. Top-notch lyrics, mixed with a tender melody makes for a moving song. Convincing vocal delivery. That baritone guitar is a nice touch to the production.

Magnificent!!!! Beautifully crafted lyrics, and a sparse arrangement which builds perfectly!!!! The cello and baritone guitar are PERFECT!! It is always hard to pick a line to highlight with a FJ song......like trying to separate Miss America from the rest of the women in the pageant, but I especially loved this:

his whiskey fueled destruction
a multi-headed beast

Another gem my friend!!! Take care. Greg

Calvalcade of praise...and...hyperbole.
I'm all for that!
It is the new American Way!! Truth be damned!
There should be a song about that!
I'm going crazy.

Thanks, Marty. Always appreciated...

Do you have any final thoughts?? Is there even the tiniest light at the end of this long, dark, stench-filled tunnel of grief, alcoholism, despair and men treating women horribly?

No just kidding man. This is a really sad, sad, sad, sad song but it's a great sad song, and the piano playing is just beautiful. Gorgeous sound overall.

But next time can you do something really redneck with some loud redneck guitars and some redneck lyrics that don't really make any sense but are super happy??

😂

One of my goals these days is to keep you on the edge. It's where your brilliance shines.

Next time... Sure! I can do redneck! Well...first I have to see if ChatGirl can do redneck. I'm sure she can. MAN! she writes fast! Its flowery and doesn't really say anything original or connected, but, hey....
Oh how we suffer.

You have always had the perfect backing bands but this one is the best.
For me to say this to you is hard as you always submit fantastic songs but IMHO this one is your best to date.
Loved it.

Much appreciated, Mario. This is one of the times when the production came out just the way I wanted.

Thanks, Dan. And I much appreciate the piano mentions - coming from you (a player), means a lot...

Masterpiece, definitely. Dark lyrics, haunting piano, strong buildup, emotional vocals. A song where its length is its strength, time to feel the pain and time to dwell in the sad empty space.

Hi' Floyd,

Everyone else has accurately described the emotion, feel, and wonderful production, vocal, arrangement, etc. I won't rehash it - other than to say I think the baritone guitar was so perfect for this. That piano guy wasn't bad, either.

But what I liked about this, perhaps not so obvious, at least to me until I reread the lyrics, was that you didn't end the song with the typically expected apology, beg to come back, forgive me, etc. It was simply an acknowledgment and ownership of the pain inflicted. No excuses, no pleading, simply self-realization and admission - which can be painful.

You should be the flagship commercial for the musical wonders that can be realized via BIAB with some savvy application. You intricately know your craft and display it so expertly. Man, you're good! I could go on, but I think you get my drift. And the best part was that I didn't have to lie or exaggerate to write a single word about the preceding words.

Alan
