There are times like this when I could actively get to hate Microsoft and Windows.
I've now tried every fix and repair I can access, with no success.
Final option ... reformat the drive and get rid of Windows from it. In truth, now that I've retired, I probably don't really any longer need a Win8.1 machine as I rarely now have to verify software on it. It's an absolutely awful desktop anyway. Good riddance.

As my fix attempts also broke Win8.1, I also can't now deactivate the BIAB that's on it.
