Song of Summer

This song sounded better in my head than it actually sounds recorded. But my output has been rather low lately, so here it is. I'm not happy with the vocal, but it's the best I can do anymore.

The Wrecking Crew:
RT908 Bass, Electric, SmoothBallad
RT4632 Fiddle, Background AmericanaMovinSparse
RT519 Bass, Electric, Pop HalfNotes
RT1764 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Pop16thsA-B
RT2558 Cello, Background SlowSwing
EZKeys Piano
NI Electric Mint
NI Strummed Acoustic
NI Picked Acoustic
Drums on Demand

Sunrise on the mountain
With you at my side
We danced in the constellations
We glittered the sky
I can't go back
I can't go back

I wouldn’t ask you to wait for me
Or look for a sign from above
Keep your memories under lock and key
But don’t forget that we once loved

High tide on the ocean
Salted kiss in the breeze
‘tween the shore and the sunset
I sank to my knees
I can't go back
I can't go back

I wouldn’t ask you to wait for me
Or look for a sign from above
Keep your memories under lock and key
But don’t forget that we once loved

I followed you into the night
Like the Cranberries’ song “Linger”
You had me wrapped around your finger
Waking up to the scattered light
From a foggy outdoor slumber.
We sang our song of summer

Really a super song and I LOVE your vocals. Very cool how you changed up the descending chord pattern, and the harmonic twists on the bridge are also very cool. All the BiaB and other parts sound great and support the song perfectly. Think you've built an excellent musical transport for your story of lost love. Must have sounded amazing in your head for you to be disappointed, 'cause it sounds pretty sweet to me. Also..."Linger" is a killer tune. RIP Dolores...

Scott,

It's hard to believe that you are not happy with the outcome of this song... I think this is one of the best things I have ever heard from you. Love the vocal and LOVE the song.

Great arrangement, band and mix.

Truly outstanding in every way.

Nice sounding mix.

I hear you on the "it sounded better in my head than it did recorded". All the time.

Enjoyable song.

I still often play my Ghosts That Never Lived collection for inspiration, and your vocals are still top notch, Scott. This is a good write, and I like how you build the band. Cool changes and melody. I was never a singer, except making demos for others, but, man, if I could sing like you, I probably wouldn't have learned to play bass. This song is so good, but now you got me wanting to hear what's in your head.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Scott,

An excellent write.

"Keep your memories under lock and key
But don’t forget that we once loved"

"High tide on the ocean
Salted kiss in the breeze
‘tween the shore and the sunset
I sank to my knees
I can't go back"

Highlights.

Nice arrangement/production. Terrific build on the back end.
Nice job with all the NI stuff.

Impressed by your EZKeys track.
Even with both 1 and 2 and an addition 20 MIDI packs, I find it difficult to create a good nuanced piano performance. You did an admirable job! How long did that take you?

Good stuff. Really Good Stuff.

Hi, Scott.

As others said, if this is a disappointment, you have a heck of an imagination!

Your voice reminds me a bit of Neil Diamond, which is good.

I like how you balanced fast and slow, open and busy. Nice arrangement, too.

Hit me from the first note, this did. It's a superb, quite incredible song.

"I wouldn’t ask you to wait for me
Or look for a sign from above
Keep your memories under lock and key
But don’t forget that we once loved"

Wow.

Perhaps the best compliment I can give you ( in lieu of an "in-depth" analysis) is that I've got a massive cold and headache, I'm tired and grumpy and all over the place, and yet this song got me out of this exhausted mood I'm in, and kept me listening, note for note, until the very end.

Your voice sounds great to me, too. It's a superb song. Well done.

Ron, thanks for your positive review. I use to listen to that Cranberries CD constantly in the 90s. It drove my wife crazy.

Thanks, Floyd. I really don't know how long because I leave for work a 7 and get home 11 hours later. Consequently, that only allows me to do a little here and a little there until I finish the song. For EZ keys, I kept going through all the grooves until I found the one I was looking for. For this song, I chose the piano first and then the BIAB and NI tracks. It was difficult finding BIAB tracks that fit with the piano track.
