Can't Afford Your Love on Soundcloud
Can't Afford Your Love on YouTube

Essentially just another breakup song. It's more of a B-Side song. But since less folks know what that is, lets called it a Besides song.

File:Can't Afford Your Love.SGU
Key=Dm , Tempo 100, Length (m:s)=3:19
Style is _SUPER.STY (Super 70s Soul Funk)

RealTracks in song: ~673:Organ, B3, Background Blues BB Ev 085
RealTracks in style: 4229:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm SoulFunk70s Ev 100
RealDrums in Song: TambourineJanglyEv16
RealDrums in Song: CabasaQuarters
RealDrums in style:SoulFunk70sEv: a: Hat & Sidestick b: Hat & Snare
Dave Bell (Blue Attitude) played guitar and I added bass, keys and vocal.

Can't Afford Your Love

I can't afford your loving any longer.
Emotional reserve strained.
My wallet's runnin' dry as I'm sitting in your corner
with all my budget drained.
There is somethin' in the way that you're looking at me lately
that I seem unworthy of.
I feel I cannot pay the price is costs to play.
I can't afford your love.

I can't decide if you just want to use me
to see how much I would pay
for the priviledge just to be in the presence of your beauty.
But I've got something to say.
You just keep me in your debt, but I'm charging back the interest, cuz I don't have enough
I feel I cannot pay the price it costs to play.
I can't afford your love.

I never know what I should say when you do the things you do.
I never want to spend the time. I won't invest in you.

V-- (Dm Gm)4 F Gm F Gm
C Dm7 Gm7 Am7...
BR-- F F Gm7 Gm7 C7 C7 Bb7 Am7...

END-- Dm7... Gm7... Dm7...

Hi, Marty.

I still remember B sides of records. They've got the songs that sometimes sound better than the A side. wink

Nice. Plus, the verse has an interesting "walk up" I'd expect from a bridge.

Marty,

Great song and great arrangement. Love your vocal and Dave's work here.

I also love B sides, so much excellent material was lost on the flip side. This one deserves to be heard over and over!

Good song. Nice band choice. Bass vocal and Dave's guitar (big sound!) sounded great.

B-side my butt! (and I remember so called B-sides)
This is top shelf all the way.
Everything is spot on.
Definitely an A-side.

I arrived early to a restaurant.
The manager asks, "do you mind waiting a bit?"
I said no.
"Good", he said. "Take these drinks to table 3"

I dig the way you sang the last line of the chorus ...raw & rare.
Excellent playing Dave & Marty - excellent.
It's a fine, fine thing.

Marty,

That's some smoky blues going on right there. That lead solo just slays . . . (maybe a bit too far in front of the mix? Dunno . . . see what others think).

Cool rhythm and feel to this . . . good stuff!

Really nice song, and expertly played/sung. Better than a B-side for sure! To add to the B-side discussion, back in the day we ALWAYS listened to the B-side, 'cause...we had paid for it, right? Same with albums. We'd exhaust every track on both sides. When my son purchased his first CD he asked me why people buy a bunch of crappy songs just to get the one good one. Hmmm. Kids today. On the other hand, his favorite album is "Brother in Arms", so I cut him a lot of slack.

Love your song!

Thanks, David. Yeah, that's my style, "Kinda." Not quite this, not quite that. Glad you like it.

Thanks, David. I agree about the Bs. Seems you and I (and probably a lot of us here) weren't the marketing targets of the music moguls.

Thanks, Bob. This one sat on the shelf for a year, and now finally breathes. It'll be a last minute addition to a new album coming out next month. Course not many will hear that either. wink

SUPERB!!!

What a song, Marty. One of your best, once more. Edgy, punchy ... wonderful. The lyrics communicate a great message ... been there (who hasn't?) smile Your vocals are just as good as the song, the delivery is marvellous. And the video, as I wrote above: magnificent - so well and carefully crafted.

Dave Bell once more nails the guitar solo. Wow.

And that lyrics line: "You just keep me in your debt, but I'm charging back the interest" - brilliant smile

Hats truly off to you, Marty. Takes a lot of talent and just as much effort to create something like this - and nail it, which you've done. Bravo.

If this is the B-side then bring on the A-lister...another smartly composed and worded tune...the rhythm is a grabber for me...it has that Witchy Woman vibe to it...the instrumentation here is exceptional...the vocals are great Marty...super lead Dave!...I love every part of it!

Love your song!
Love your comment, Ron. Makes me wonder though... Did you wear out ALL tracks on the Double Fantasy album? I purposely scratched it so it would play just a Single Fantasy.

Wow, thanks a British ton, James. Yeah, i know too much to take credit for that line, but as soon as it appeared I liked it, too.

This has a feel of some of the 60’s songs like Stormy and it stays in your head!

Ahhh, some of the best classics were B sides, weren’t they? smile

Your vocal and bass are rich sounding and Dave’s guitar is powerful.

The mix sounds really good on the Kalis and that B3 sat in very well.

Enjoyed it! We're absolutely B side ourselves with fun listening.

Thanks, floyd. Back in the day I would've been quite happy to have written a B-side. Today, I'm just happy to...
