Has anyone else experienced this on a Win 11 machine? 1. BiaB as well as a few other programs are open and have been sitting idle for a period of time, say 2 hours. 2. When you return to your computer to play anything containing audio, YouTube, DAW etc, the audio is completly paralyzed. 3. Prior to rebooting your machine you attempt to methodically and gracefully shut down your programs starting with BiaB. 4. At which time you get a Windows error, the circular/rotating activity cursor starts spinning, and the BiaB screen goes gray and is locked-up. 5. And so you bring up the Task Manager to shut down BiaB that way. 6. And when you shut down BiaB your system audio returns and plays normally in the still-open programs 7. And upon a smooth system re-boot there are no messages indicating a Windows (or any other) update.
I don't consider this catastrophic but rather a symptom of something larger at play. Somehow, and it looks like BiaB is involved, my audio got hi-jacked.

Chances are your Windows 11 power settings are set to some type of power saving mode. Look at your Windows 11 power settings and set them so all power settings are set to ON all the time. Also be aware that every time you receive an update you need to look at both your power and audio settings.
Thanks Jim, I've always had them set to "Balanced" which has done me well.

Thanks Dan, I don't see "Sonos" as an option, you may have created that as a custom plan. And I actually don't think this is power setting related. My "Balanced" setting doesn't do anything until 4 hrs of inactivity. I was away for about 2 hrs. This audio paralysis has happened before but it's rare. I'll just keep an eye on it.

It might be something as simple as static electricity (especially in the less humid winter months). Just skidding a bit on a cloth chair then touching the keyboard can lock up the computer. If you think that could be it, try spraying the floor and chair with Static Guard, and get in the habit of touching something else metal when you sit down before you touch the keyboard.
I use a custom power plan on my desktop computer that never lets anything turn off. And re-read Jim's last sentence.
BIAB 2026 Win Audiophile. Software: Fender Studio One 8, Swam horns, Acoustica-7, Notion 6, Song Master Pro, Win 11 Home. Hardware: Intel i9, 32 Gb; Fender Quantom HD8 & Faderport 8, Royer 121, Adam Sub8 & Neumann 120 monitors.
Hey Noel, You might be onto something here. Yes, I have USB connectors involved. BiaB is connected to one, a printer another, my audio interface and my cell phone are two more.
But again, this is a very minor problem and I have no idea how to reproduce the problem which would make any remedy hard to verify. Plus since it's such a minor/rare problem with a ready fix; a reboot , I certainly don't want to risk making things worse.
I thought the PGM team might want to be aware of this since it was BiaB that got hung when I tried to shut it down AND when it was eventually shut down (via Task Manager) the audio came back immediately.
EDIT: Actually I don't even think I needed to reboot, since the audio came back after shutting down BiaB. But I did one thinking there was a Windows update waiting for me.

We haven't experienced this specific problem with BIAB - I personally use Windows 11 on a regular basis with a USB audio interface. That said, I've disabled USB selective suspend like Noel suggested as I previously had issues with other USB devices, so it may well be a factor. Give it a shot, and report back if you have trouble, or in a few days or a week or so if the problem is solved.
