It might be something as simple as static electricity (especially in the less humid winter months). Just skidding a bit on a cloth chair then touching the keyboard can lock up the computer. If you think that could be it, try spraying the floor and chair with Static Guard, and get in the habit of touching something else metal when you sit down before you touch the keyboard.
