Hi, all:

This is a collaboration with Ray Cochrane (rayc). Ray sent me the concept track for the music, as well as the lyrics for the chorus (which he characterized as an idea, but which in reality inspired the verses I ultimately penned to go with). I say it was originally a concept track because, while excellent in its own right, it seemed with each iteration, Ray kept taking the mix to a new level. I have had the good fortune to work with some great collaborators . . . and Ray is a true gem. I hope it shows in this track, and that you enjoy the listen!

My best to you all,

Deej

Here’s the song:

YOU SAID, SHE SAID, THEY SAID, HE SAID

Here are the lyrics:

Can I shake these looks and stares
Can I break this endless chatter
All these rumors running in circles
These rumors got me running in circles
They won’t get us anywhere

You said, she said
They said, you lied
You said, he said
They said, you cried
I say, this isn't working
You say I haven't tried
Who are these doing all the talking
Why are they so preoccupied

Can’t these posers check themselves
Keep their minds on their own business
All these phantoms down the rabbit hole
I’m chasing phantoms down the rabbit hole
We’re not getting anywhere

Will this noise not ever end
Can’t we have just a minute of silence
Just a chance to let our two hearts mend
One last chance to let them heal again
It might get us everywhere

And here’s the band:

Organ (Background): RT 2581
Organ (Lead): RT 3993
Horns 1: RT 3325
Horns 2: RT 3998
Drums: Rock90s^01

Lyrics: Ray Cochrane & Dj Lekich

Deej / Ray,

Wow! This is outstanding! What a great song and performance. Love the lyrics and arrangement and the band is big and punchy. Pro mix.

The vocal is absolutely killer. Deej, you are truly an amazing singer.

Deej is, as usual, underselling himself: he wrote the melody& most of the lyric, we tweaked the structure and progressions together, then each iteration was listened to and assessed by his excellent ears.
It was a fun, smooth, easy collaborative process and I learnt a lot working with the man.

An excellent, excellent collaboration. As someone said, above: edgy and punchy. I will be honest: the style of the music is not really what I would usually listen to. That's irrelevant, though (of course): what matters is how good the production is, not whether it's my "cup of tea" or not smile And the production itself is stellar, the music is hard hitting, the mix is excellent, and (last, but certainly not least): Deej sings it out of the park. Well done, you two: you've made an old fashioned so and so like me choose to sit through a style of music I would usually not sit through, and come out of it admiring the handiwork smile

Oh, so well done, Deej. My hat is off to you, sir. Ray sent me an incredibile concept song, too, but everytime I change it I go right back to the original. This one is brilliant. Ray's lyrics are incredible and your ability to re-craft them your way is quite amazing. Of course, your vocal is outstanding. Man, I gotta get something done with the one he sent me. Y'all should really hear it. Love this, you two.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Man, this sounds GREAT! Cool song and killer vocals. LOVE the mix and particularly how the vocals are placed. That's a really full sounding band for there to be so few instruments. Well done, lads!

A collaboration of 2 talented guys.

Punky. The Deej pipes are perfect for Punk!

LOVE the BAND! Great use of the Horns! First time I heard them used where they sound "like a real Band" - like Bruce's horns (in the early records).

Excellent mix.

What a Band!!!!

This is just a great listen.

Deej and Ray, this is a fantastic song.
Super groove
Outstanding backing band
Best horns I have heard in these forums, much like Tower of Power
A wailing B3
Super mix- that must of been hard to do.

Hi, Deej and Ray.

Not quite my cup of tea... But after three listens, it started growing on me. wink

Solid production, nice use of horns. Enjoyed all the listens!

Thanks,
I'm not sure if it's in my general listening realm either...the last couple of years has seen me writing what comes rather that what I want.
Yes, Deej's a big hitter.

Mine too.
Deej wrote the vast majority of the lyric and wrote that hooky melody too.
No worries Marty, you'll get to the other one when the time is right.
Thank you.

Aside from the BIAB parts there're a few guitar tracks, bass & some Mel9 assisted horn underpinnings.

Thanks Floyd,
The fellow certainly can belt out a tune.
Two layers of horns in parts and the bridge section has guitar synth horns to kick it along.

Thanks Mario,
the mix wasn't particularly hard once Deej's vocals were in - everything settled around him.

Thanks,
I don't doubt the song being outside most listening habits - I couldn't peg a genre on it either.
Deej's vocal/melodic hooks are deep sea approved.

A great start leading to a brilliant song and once again on this forum, the lyrics are truly A1. It really is an excellent chorus. The organ solo and end piece also perfectly suit it.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

Hi Deej and Ray.

This is fantastic!
I echo the comments of those above me.
Everything about this screams "professional."
I really, really like the verses without any obvious rhymes.
That's a stroke of genius!
Then when the chorus arrives, the rhymes kick in very effectively!
I really enjoyed it!
