So, I've had the Synthesizer V vocaloids for a couple of months now and my first album project with them is about done...this is the final one to make the cut...Cyrus, Hayden and Natalie have been learning my style and they're fast learners...this song is decades old but never recorded before...I've tweaked the lyrics and honed the melody a bit (though it remains in flux)...so...if you do...my thanks for listening...Dan

FYI: This my kind of song...three different movements (melodies)...three modulations (minor to major full step up then four steps up and then half step up)

Crucified!

Dan,

I'm a big fan of your songs . . . From a production standpoint, this one is brilliant . . . everything I would expect from you. The vocaloid works well (though seems to lack just a bit of "gravity" that the song perhaps needs). So while there is so much that is beautiful about this production, I have to be honest and say I struggled with the song as whole a bit.

The first two verses are just killer . . . the melody, feel and arrangement are engaging. But for me the song loses energy, atmosphere and engagement on the third verse beginning with "Jesus came to break" . . . and perhaps my very subjective reaction to it is augmented by a lyric in those two verses that I didn't quite follow (though I recognize others may very much have a better understanding of it). Which is to say, this song may very well resonate with many of the faith, but unlike many of your other songs, it loses me (the unfaithful, LOL) a bit. And that should probably disqualify me and my feedback . . . but I offer it nonetheless. Personally, I kind of would have liked to see where this song went if you stayed in the same vibe of those opening two verses.

I hope all is well in your world.

Dan,

Another amazing piece of work with the Synth V voices. Great instrumentation and an excellent mix as well.

I wish you all the best with the album.

"decades old but never recorded before" What were you waiting for, Dan. This is really quite special. If there were black belts for synth training, you would have a master rank. Love those strings too. And, oh yes, the uplifting Simmons modulation. The whole song is filled with inspiration. Excellent lyrics and I really enjoy the melody and wouldn't change a thing. When is the album release?

Enjoy whatever happens!

Dan, well, ANOTHER epic song! LOVE the modulations and the BIG ending. Am I using CAPS too much?? Sorry, your song has me reaching for superlatives, and words fail. Those vocals...I'm not sure how any of this works, but you're producing some unusually musical, natural sounding vocals. Hats off to you, and good luck with the album launch!

Dan, you keep producing masterpieces after masterpieces!
As usual everything about this is perfect.
Great lyrics and instrumentation.
An outstanding production.

Hi, Dan.

Moody start, excellent backing. To misquote Mario, "As usual, just about everything about this is perfect".

The vocals, melody, harmonies, arrangement, build, key changes... stunning.

My only nit is the transition at 1:45 - a shift to a very quiet section - doesn't work because of the cymbal roll. My ears want a touch of breathing space there, but the cymbal takes that away.

But that's minor. The music takes me on a lovely emotional journey, which is what excellent music does. smile

Deej...I REALLY appreciate your comments...I won't be long here except to say that the first part of the song and the third part make no sense to me (doctrinally or theologically) without the the middle section....the middle defines the WHY? for the crucifixion and the third part is the WHAT DO I DO WITH IT? section... at least this is my take on the whole thing...the variance of the keys and melodies is to make sure the three acts are seen as three different parts of the one gracious act...dying with Christ (to sin) is an essential part of God's plan (i.e. the gospel)...I've rewritten that section many times (even since your comments)...clarity is my goal but I may not have achieved it...thanks again for your comments...best regards Dan

My sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to this post with a comment...I take your comments and suggestion very seriously and often make significant changes as a result of them...I view all my songs as fluid and changeable...sometimes after many years have past...in this particular case decades have gone by and I'm still tweaking this song! I love it!!

Dan,

It's all good . . . The thing is, the song is wonderful in all aspects of production . . . and it's a rarity for me to comment on recordings where I provide no constructive suggestions on the song . . . which is the case here. I'm at fault in that regard. As I suspected, I think some of my reaction is attributable to my shallow understanding and your explanation makes sense as to the structure of the lyric.

I'm wishing you the best of luck on the album . . . You are tremendously talented and I anticipate and hope it will do as well as it deserves!

My best to you,

Deej

Great song Dan.
I do not usually respond to showcase post due to a fear of being too critical, but this is worthy.

I too am a Christian artist and it inspires me to post some of my songs here in the future.

I will offer one mix input.
On the B part of your song "Jesus came to break the fettered change", because the melody drops in register the words for that verse in the following verse need to come out clearer perhaps by slightly boosting the vocals or bringing the instrumentation down or more subdued.

Studio One (latest version), Win 11 23H2 , i9 -10940X 3.3 GHz, 32GB Mem, a 4K 40" monitor, PreSonus Studio Live III Console as interface/controller. secondarily test on Reaper, Cakewalk, and S1 on Surface Pro 3 Win 10 (latest versions).

Thanks so much for your comment and suggestion...that second movement has been a real challenge and volume is one of the challenges because of the unusual key change...the vocal register becomes really low...so I will heed your advise and try to make the proper (better) adjustments...it's great to hear from other Christian artists...we are challenged not only to make good music but also make sure our message is clear and true to our calling...thanks again...and blessings...Dan

Great song Dan, and man, what a production. It would make a complete change of direction, but after hearing those first two verses I could hear a hard distorted rock guitar anthem, similar to a "Jerusalem" by Gentle Faith coming in at some point. Just an idea. As it is though, it's a masterpiece.

Hi Dan,

What a gorgeous and compelling production. You worked miracles with the synth voices. But that string section is beyond my ability to properly state how wonderful it is.

Your music is some of the very best on the forum. I've never once been disappointed. Your talent deserves to be heard everywhere.

Wishing you success with the album. I'm still humbled by this song.

Wishing you everything wonderful.

Alan

Beautiful production--so expertly arranged and mixed. Another majestic build.
Your heading says this is the album's final song, but I would think (imho) that the final song would be about the resurrection (although that last note of the song is a show stopper.)
