I'd almost forgot about this one.... It was partially finished when a new song required my full attention and then something else came along and ...well, it kinda got forgotten along with I wasn't really happy with the way it was going.....But, I decided to put a few pieces into the puzzle and call it done.

A road trip song that's also a love song....

OPEN ROAD

EDIT: This has a different but similar solo and the B3 #686 organ added Updated version

Here's the band.

Vocals: Solaria
Modern country rootsy drums
Bass 3502
Guitar 316-362-542
Guitar solo: (Me) Gibson SG and Spark modeling amp.

Lyrics:

OPEN ROAD

[Verse]
Riding down the highway Wind in my hair
Pedal to the metal Not a single care
Got my favorite song playing on the stereo
Gonna hit the road Let my worries go

[Verse]
Windows rolled down Sun shining bright
Feeling the freedom It's an endless flight
Miles and miles of open highway to explore
With every turn a new adventure's in store

[Chorus]
On this open road We're gonna ride
With the wind as our guide We'll reach for the sky
No destination Just the journey we're on
In this moment All our troubles are gone

[Verse]
Stopping where the sidewalk ends we've got time to spend.
Meeting lots of people and making new friends
Watching sunsets fade to dark we're making memories again.
Every mile we travel Brings us closer to our dreams

[Verse]
Singing along to the radio The music fills the air
Towns drift by under a clear blue sky without a care
Come tomorrow, we can see what's around that bend.
As we go down this road we hope it doesn't end.

[Chorus]
On this open road Yeah We're gonna ride
With the wind as our guide We'll reach for the sky
No destination Just the journey we're on
In this moment All our troubles are gone

Herb,

That is a great song and an incredible vocal by Solaria. So nuanced and full of emotion. I continue to be amazed by this technology. Really nice.

Love the production - the guitars sound excellent.

Hi Herb,

Terrific song and great vocals by Solaria.

A couple of suggestions cos I really like it:
1. Maybe another instrument in the Choruses to make them stand out from the verses e.g. a swirly organ.
2. Lead break - excellent - I would like to hear it louder and a bit more forward in the micx with less reverb.

Best Regards
Nigel

Herb, nice road song, and it sounds GREAT. Never heard Solaria sound better, nicely done. And REALLY like your solo. Those modelling amps will spoil you for easy tones for sure.

I added the 686 B3 and posted a new mix with it.
I reworked the guitar solo, I used a different model with as much of the frilly stuff on it. I purposely have the guitar lower in the mix than I normally would.

Good advice. Thanks

Ron, yeah... thank you. Solaria is quite capable when done right. I have a few more in the pipeline with her singing that are going to be a real treat. Stay tuned. The modeling amps.... sure let you have the option of a wide variety of sound. My biggest issue, and it might be due to my monitors (not the best for sure) is that I hear it one way in the studio but on playback and especially in my cans, it's got a different character and tone. Trying to find a model and tone setting that sounds good recorded seems to be the biggest issue. Maybe I'm too picky and particular about what I'm looking for. I appreciate the compliment on the solo.... I always, well, mostly, try to be tasty vs flashy.

Thanks again.

Herb...this is one of the best if not the best use of a vocaloid that I've heard so far...Solaria's voice is passionate and nuanced...a perfect match to a great song...the melody is captivating and the lyrics paint an outstanding story that captures us...the track is very pro sounding and the solo work is really nice...this is just a stellar song...loved it!

Hi herb,

Man, this is an amazing song! So glad you pulled ity up and polished it. As has been previously mentioned (but worthy of a repeat), Solaria just kills it - the nuances you applied to her give her a vocal as close ta a real human voice as I've heard from a vocaloid. A tip of the hat!!!

Nice simple arrangement has erverything needed and not a single thing not needed.

I like the simplicity of the arrangement. Making simplicity sound full and engaging is not always easy, but this pours ouit a full rich sound.

Excellent!

Alan

A song that should be on a movie soundtrack. Darn good song. Solaria has the right feel for the song, which I find a bit frightening because she's a synth. crazy

You're such a good writer, Herb. The fact that this gem sat on a backburner while others were done confirms that. I really like the melody on this and the lyrics you provided it. Excellent work with solaria, and the whole band sounds good. Sybtle but strong differences between the two versions.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Really enjoyable song to be sure! One suggestion is to put a melodic lift to the chorus. You don't have to change the chords just lift the melody. Regardless, I like the sentiment the vocals and style choice!

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed this.

Regarding Solaria. To my knowledge, there is no manual on Synth V or it's features. I have picked the brains of several folks here who know so much more than I do about this synth and stumbled into some of the things that are there, but not so obvious. Thanks to those people for guiding me and answering my questions when I ran into those brick walls.

I like the solo too. I probably went through several dozen iterations of that solo before I finally said.... enough! Print it!

Pretty good song, I really enjoyed listening to it.
Reminds me lyrically of one of mine.
I think you found the right singer for this kind of ballad.

This is one of the best sounding synth voices that I have ever heard - brilliant work.
I thought it was a real singer until I read your intro.
Great mix.
This is your best to date Herb.

Alan, thanks for listening. I've tried to keep to the philosophy of only using what is needed and nothing more. Just because I can, doesn't mean I should. The temptation is real to add just because I can. Simple things are best.

Thanks again
