I would say prime usage is just to be able to play GM stuff. And if you are after a particular sound. But...if you are looking for somewhat realistic sounding instruments, this is not it. The best overall software option that would map GM automatically and do program changes in my opinion is Halion/Sonic (full), but the newest version has issues with GM. So it has to be a version before that. For the price, Roland VA is not bad.
I finally came back to try HALion/Sonic again, but for me at least, I collected the newer Download Assistant, but it still says it won't run on my PC (Win11; i5-12400F). I gave up last time when I became bored of trying to find a fix/workaround. Quite a few people seem to have issues with it. frown
