Martini For One

This is one I put together about 2006 or 2007 and posted on Soundcloud 12 or 13 years ago but have never posted it here. This was created on software before I bought BIAB the first time in 2011. Everything on it is midi except my guitar track. The only thing BIAB on it is when occasionally a BIAB midi string track augments what the background strings from the old program. I'll add the info on that strings track as soon as I find it.

Several folks have asked me to post something with my own guitar work on it. The entire guitar track is me. The drums really suck, but I'm stuck with them as I don't have the original guitar track. I'm looking at buying software to lift individual tracks from a song. Maybe I can then put BIAB accompaniment behind the guitar.

The BIAB strings come in 1:31 - 1:45 and 2:33 - 2:45

The mixing leaves a lot to be desired. I knew as much about mixing back then as I did about building a nuclear submarine (never built one!).

Anyway, FWIW, here it is. Hope you like it.

Alan

OH, YEAH!! To all those who said you should post some of your guitar skills, I am grateful. I love the changes and feel of this, and your ability shines with taste and technique. OH, man, someone point this guy in the right direction to lift these tracks for fresh paint. I'd love to hear what you did back then with what you do now. Love it, Alan.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hey Marty,

Now, aren't you just way too nice! But thank you so much. My production skills are minimal at best - can't even figure out how to use a real DAW. I just aimlessly wander around the halls of Audacity and occasionally go through a door with a little goody waiting for me. That's about it. I play fairly decently, but the production side leaves me dumbfounded. Diana occasionally tells me that dumb found me long before that.

As soon as things settle down here for a while, I'm going to get that software and start working to put BIAB tracvks behind vocals and guitar work.

Thanks again. Take care, my friend.

Alan

Hi Bob,

Thanks for taking the time to listen and reply so kindly. I'm beyond delighted you enjoyed it. I still play guitar decently, but not nearly as I did a few years back. It's not so much that getting older, I have a disease called focal dystonia that affects my ability to control the action of the fingers on my left hand. But, I had more than my 15-minuite share of the spotlight, so I can't complain. Music has made me a great deal of money for quite a few years.

Again, thanks so much for the listen and the kind support.

Take care,

Alan

Alan...this is so nice...great guitar track...love the piano parts...this is so pleasant to the ear...smooth and relaxing...you should play around with Fadr stems (you can separate tracks on old recordings for free using their software) at fadr.com ...it works pretty well at separating track parts...anyway this is really great music!

Alan, wow, LOVE your playing on this, and what a nice tune, too! I like that you let the guitar tone stand on its own, it sounds right up front and GREAT. It's been said in entertainment to always leave the audience wanting more...and you have! Great save, looking forward to more blasts from you past.

Nice listen, if this is a midi type 1 file you should be able to pull it into your DAW as seperate tracks, then you add different drums, sounds, etc. Your Guitar work is beautiful you know your way around the fretboard. Great chord pattern, liked it alot.

Alan,

Your guitar technique is fully displayed in this wonderful piece.
I'm sure it would be even better if the accompaniment were replaced with RealTracks.
I use SpectraLayers to separate the mix of my songs, but it's quite difficult to achieve complete separation.
It was quite successful in separating the vocals, but the instruments still have a long way to go.
However, if you keep the original recording a little and layer RealTracks on it, I think you might be able to create a natural mix.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Hi Ron,

Many thanks for all the nice words! Other than some reverb, tone control, mild compression, and occasional echo/delay, I don't often use other effects on my guitar. i tend to keep the track pretty "naked" unless there is a specific need for something additional. For better or for worse, doing sdo gives a better representation of how good (or bad) my legit skills are. Sometime late next month, I'll be looking for a few more older songs to "polish" and repost.

Wishing you the very best,

Alan

The work on your axe (tone wise and chop wise) is excellent and really nails that lounge vibe.
Oh, nice and melodic also.

We throughly enjoyed it and thought all you needed was Diana Krall on the piano!
