Link: Even A Love Song

So, I'm finally back from a slightly longer vacation, and to get things rolling again here's something short and simple so as not to overtax anyone's attention span, including mine.

The backing tracks were a piece of cake and only took the better part of an afternoon,
but no lyrics would fit, no matter what I tried
- against war: nope
- against politics and the current state of Europeland: NO
- against everything (aka Punk): close, but no cigar
- a hate song: okay-ish, but my Revenge song is way better
- protest song: no, been there, done that, the world's still a mess

Then I remembered the wise words of the great American songwriter and philosopher
Floyd Jane: 95% of all songs should be love songs.

There you have it!
A love song.
Nothing more and nothing less.
And, to be honest, I like it.
Upbeat, loud and without a Banjo. What more could you want?

Enjoy, and write something.

As always, thanks to Marty for lyrical and musical advice. You rule!

Some technical information:
Style: _BOTTLE.STY

The band:
Bass: 2754
Drums: BluesRockEv
Guitars: 697, 648, 3623, 3738, 4387, 2x 3931
Vocals: The usual suspects

You can find the lyrics in the next post.

Title: Even A Love Song

(Verse 1)
I woke up last night
Couldn't sleep
Had a dream
It was so bad
That I was covered in sweat
From that dream
That you were gone
Forever gone
I remember exactly how
Our love was like it isn't now

(Chorus 1)
This is my love song
That I wrote for you
Even though sometimes you treat me wrong
This is my love song
My little love song
To show you the place where you belong
You belong
I belong
We belong
But maybe I am wrong

(Verse 2)
Every time we fight
I'm full of fear
That you might
Disappear
I cling to those days
When everything was bright
Days full of light
We kissed and laughed
Through every night
Making love till the morning light

(Chorus 2)
Just a little love song
That I wrote for you
Even though sometimes you treat me wrong
A love song
Our love song
My love song
For you

(Bridge)
Cause I'll love you
Till the end of my days
I won't ever let you go
I plead you I beg you
I'd do everything for you

(Chorus 3)
Even a love song
I would write for you
Even though sometimes you treat me wrong
A love song
Our love song
My love song
For you
This is my love song
My love song
To show you the place where you belong
You belong
I belong
We belong

(Outro)
But maybe I am wrong
Maybe I am wrong, wrong, all wrong

This is just a really excellent song all around. 100% on all fronts, How did you do the video? It looks very like a 3D modelling animation - the kind of images I create, but animated - though even if I had enough room on laptop, which is only used for 3D modelling, to be able to do animations it would take me at least a month to lip-sync a vocalist! Amazing job.

B.D.,

Your melodies are always pop.
This song is also a really simple and pop love song. It's very cool.
It's easy to remember and easy to listen to.
Also, the vocals are great. Is it a synth vocal?
If so, you're a master of that field.
The video is also great.
Enjoyed my listen and watch a lot.

Best regards.

I love this song as you know, but I didn't see the video beofre. That's very cool, Brain. Your creativity is boundless and fruitful, my friend. I may be wrong but this is a terrific love song --no, I'm right. Well done!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Thank you for your nice words.
Lip-syncing videos is not as difficult as it used to be. Until recently, I created them all with a software called iClone8 .
The result looks like this video.
The problem is that it's a lot of work, not because of the lip sync, but because of all the other movements (e.g. breathing) you do while you're singing.
If you want to do it right, it's a lot more work than the song itself.
And I'm first and foremost a (kinda) musician, not a director.

Then I came across Hedra , and even if the beta version is a bit rough at the edges, it's a lot less work to create something interesting.
No idea what the prices will be when the beta ends, or if they'll even survive.
But it looks promising.

This is what the world needs, Yet Another Love Song laugh And a pure love song, not a break-up song ... or maybe I am wrong wink

Very nice pop rock song with good guitars and dynamic arrangement. And the vocalist has also nicely a lot of natural variation from calm to strong and from low to high.

It's mesmerizing to watch that simple video, although some parts seem artificial, somehow she feels like a real person who can sing beautifully and releases her music regularily. Or is it you or she?? Maybe one day there are true AI persons posting their creative art on this forum smile

Hi B.D.

I watched/listened to this yesterday (and again now) but didn't have time to leave a comment at the time.

Your music and videos are always among the best on the forum. This is no exception.

Terrific work on the synth voice, and the music is spot on. I ALWAYS enjoy your posts. You have a lot of talent!

Take care,

Alan

Thank you very much for your kind comment, Shigeki Adachi.
I (almost) always try to find melodies that are easy to remember and sing along to.
Sometimes I even succeed smile
The vocals are from the Synthesizer V, the singers are Natalie and for the background vocals Solaria.

Nice bit of pop! And a creative way out of a writing bind! laugh

AI is an amazing tool to bring good lyrics to a public space! Great job with the use of this technology.

Great production! Is AI involved? The singer looks a little 'artificial', but pretty laugh

I began in 1970 with a 7 piece dance band. I had other bands, but my most successful one was "The four Windows", a 4 piece guitar band. Many concerts, TV shows, Record contract with EMI and a guitar hit in 1982 in Europe with my "Lonely Seagull".

Cool punchy backing.
The video is VERY distracting to me...I noticed the A.I. character with mouth/tongue movements that are often indicators of someone who's grown out of a lisp....I kept looking for more signs as it went along. I had to switch back to this page and just listen.
The algorithm have really upped the incidental noises, breath etc.
Some melodic phrases seemed very similar but that is the real world with so few notes being manipulated by so many people.
Good rush of energy and a big beat.

Cheers

B.D...I always love your stuff...you have if not mastered at least captured the new art of making music and music videos with the new tech of the day...the song is, as usual, produced so very well...the song itself has a really nice rock drive and the vocals fit right into the pocket so nicely...really superb effort on your part!

It's really impressive what these new AI progams can do - I checked out Hedra and other new ones and I'm sure they're here to stay, or until something even better comes along. Re your video, I could do the same with a Daz Studio animation and also have the singer change expressions to go along with the lyrics, but besides not having the disc space on either LT or PC I'll never get around to doing anything like it as it would just way, way too long. I now think my saying it would take at least a month was an underestimate!

Love songs are my favorite. Strong production that builds with the vocal and lyrics. Synth sounds awesome. I like the Lennon-esque twist at the end with the "maybe I'm wrong..."

That is a powerful vocal by Natalie with lots of dynamics and human subtleties.
And Solaria does her part in a very professional manner also. Keep those gals on retainer. smile
Good rock drive presented in an excellent mix with a strong group of BiaB session folks.

That is a very cool video - the new vid software really does create something more human like in capturing the phrasing.
It will be interesting to see see the progression of this tech.

Enjoyed it!

I really like the video, and as I said it's just a whole lot of fun.

The music is good too. You have a really excellent way with pop. It's pure pop, mind you, but somebody's got to do it right!

This use by so many producers of this AI stuff is freaking me out!
I will probably never go there but that doesn't mean it doesn't have it's place in music production!
You are one of the best I've heard making these songs and this production is very well done!
IMO the best listening experience is a song between 3&4 minutes! You got a lot accomplished in this shorter song!
Very good work!

Thanks, TB

Yes, the video (minus the merging of the individual sequences) is mostly AI-generated.
The music comes from BIAB and Synthesizer V (which also claims to be an AI tool, but that's mostly marketing BS).

Hi Brain,

Very good song. Intriguing singer, nice story and minimalistic, but effective.
Like it a lot.
I think I need to work with AI as well. You're so good with it!

Your description had me thinking about "Silly Love Songs" by McCartney. And you have certainly mastered today's AI tools.
I'm glad these bot animations still don't look fully human as it was easy to imagine circuit boards behind the face.
When they beome indistinguishable from real people is when I think I'll be disorientated.

A high energy song with a touch of a punk groove.
Well done.

Not my genre, BD but this is really well put together.
The lyrics fit perfect and it's catchy, especially the chorus.
I can just see people jumping up and down at the local watering hole.
Well did.

Great song. Great sound and mix. Video is great, with just a touch of spookiness.
Well done,
Mike

The algorithm have really upped the incidental noises, breath etc.
Some melodic phrases seemed very similar but that is the real world with so few notes being manipulated by so many people.
Good rush of energy and a big beat.
Thank you Ray for listening and giving me feedback, which I always appreciate.

To be honest, I also think the video is kind of distracting, but it also makes me smile with all its shortcomings, which is why I left it as it is.

As for the breath sounds, these are NOT algorithmic (Synth V sometimes produces exhalation sounds, which I almost always remove as they sound bad).
The breathing sounds you hear are all explicitly programmed by me.
When the vocals are roughly finished, I sing along and make notes of when I need to breathe and how hard (or long) I need to breathe, etc. and add the breath sounds by hand.
Synth V is actually more a MIDI synthesizer that happens to produce human voices, and not like those online AI tools that you can tell what to do without(!) knowing how to do it.

Again, this is not from me and I have no clue how this got into my account. I also don't know how to remove it. The setup and support in this forum is mostly frustrating! I'm trying to look up all my postings and use "My Posts" in search, but they show up with all the responses, which makes no sense at all. Sorry for venting my frustration here.

I began in 1970 with a 7 piece dance band. I had other bands, but my most successful one was "The four Windows", a 4 piece guitar band. Many concerts, TV shows, Record contract with EMI and a guitar hit in 1982 in Europe with my "Lonely Seagull".

BD,

Very cool tune . . . you've really mastered the vocaloid genre, with consistently crisp and well-produced tunes. Agree this video is a bit more choppy than the "Linger" one I just commented on the other day. But the sound is killer! Well done!

Yep, it's all about the time you need.

I'm no Beatles and/or Lennon expert, but I remember a documentary where Paul mentioned that John often liked to add something pessimistic after Paul's optimistic lyrics.
Yep, your comparison makes sense.

Good rock drive presented in an excellent mix with a strong group of BiaB session folks.

That is a very cool video - the new vid software really does create something more human like in capturing the phrasing.
It will be interesting to see see the progression of this tech.

Enjoyed it!

🙂
Thank you, David.

You are one of the best I've heard making these songs and this production is very well done!
IMO the best listening experience is a song between 3&4 minutes! You got a lot accomplished in this shorter song!
Very good work!

Thanks, TB
Thanks Torrey for your nice comment.
I think I already wrote this somewhere, but there's not much AI in the song itself, it's just BIAB, me (in most songs, not here) and Synthesizer V for the vocals.
And contrary to what their marketing people claim, there's not much AI in Synthesizer V.
The video is (almost) 100% AI, but in the end it's all about the music.

There's a free demo version of Synthesizer, and if you know how to work with a piano roll editor, you will quickly find your way around.

Thanks, and you're right, but that's not one of my songs. I don't know how it got in my uploaded tunes.

“Silly Love Songs” is one of the most beautiful and interesting love songs, and although I will never be able to write anything like that, it continues to inspire me despite its age.

I loved everything abut this.

From your clever preface I wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by the following music and cool video. Are the lyrics "tongue-in-cheek"? The only similar level of dedication that i have experienced has been from the K9 variety smile

Entertaining all around,well done.

A lot of my songs are a bit “tongue-in-cheek”, even if I do get serious from time to time.
But mostly it's about fun and games.
I don't understand the term “K9 variety”, what is that?
