Me too. I have 2 datapoints with the Grateful Dead.

Blasting out of a coed dormitory room 2 doors down from mine came this other-wordly heavily percussion-based music. After waiting in line to thoroughly read every bit of the album cover it turned out to be Terrapin Station. At that time I never paid any attention to what the music critics said, we all just thought it was a groundbreaking masterpiece. At my earlist conveience, I hit the record store for my own copy.

Then about a year later they came on campus for a free outdoor concert. Needless to say, it was one heck of a jam that blew our college-kid's minds. That day may have been the only day all semester I took off from the books. The very next day it was back to thermodynamics and calculus.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.
