Well, nearly three years have passed, so it's time to post a new tune: Bel-Air Belle.
Lyrics:
You'd think she'd turn her pretty nose Up at the likes of me You know she enjoys biscuits and tea Now she poses. She aims to please And make leading boys her hobby
Bel-Air Belle Fairest one of all She's my Bel-Air Belle of the Ball
She puts down the cup and averts those pretty eyes Now she gets up, puts on a disguise Now she trys to talk to me But now I'm wise to the trickery
(Of that) Bel-Air Belle Fairest one of all She's my Bel-Air Belle of the Ball
SOLO
But do you know who had the last laugh? I came here tonight with a genius plan I talked to her for a minute or so Then I introduced to her my girl
Bel-Air Belle Fairest one of all She's my Bel-Air Belle of the Ball Talking Bel-Air Belle Fairest one of all She's my Bel-Air Belle of the Ball
Possibly the video is dark (blank), but I may replace it soon with some action.
All instruments performed by Band in A Box, brought into Acoustica Mixcraft DAW, where I added my vocals. Some sort of magic plug-in used for the mix down.

Cool feeling song, Tom. I like the way you sing it and the harmony is good, although I keep reaching for the slider to turn it up a bit. Excellent use of BiaB. That responding guitar is really good. Did you have to do a lot of regeneration here and there, or is it right out of the box?
Tom...very cool track....exceptional use of BiaB...I love the eclectic use of your instrument selection...that steel guitar part is an excellent addition...well constructed, well sung and well produced!

You are who you are because you do what you do because of what you believe.
90% of the lead guitar part fell into place and a little of regen was necessary to make it intersperse acceptably with the lyrics.
I wrote this song a long time ago, so I know intimately where the lyrics go, so I was able the regen the balance quite quickly. I use the F8 button, choose the relevant track and generate about 10-12 instances, but not too many as there may be memory issues that could dump a nice take before I commit to it. Sometimes I will go in to the audio edit track and choose an array to and regenerate that way, or just fade in/out bits that interfere with the vocals. I am sure I did that here.

The low volume and the appearance of some out of phase with my vocals arose after I uploaded it to YouTube. When I listened to it back in the car this was particularly evident, although it sounds decent on my iPad at home.
It is the first time I have uploaded a song to YouTube to listen to, so I need to keep that in mind. My only other tunes for public consumption are on SoundCloud, where there is an additional sort of post mix magic you can apply (if you pay for it) which seemed to normalize those tunes and so volume issues I think were non-existent.

Tom, very smooth but kind of edgy, with a cool Knopfler feel. Great vocals all the way around. Like where you've placed the harmony lines in the mix. Really like your song a lot.
Welcome back! Hope you can hang around a while.

Thank you, DC Ron, for the kind comments.
Have I mentioned that I have seen Knopfler in concert 87 times? Maybe it rubbed off
Since the Knopf has retired from touring, it should provide me more time to post more stuff. Have a good one!

Cool vibe to this one, nice mix on the Real Tracks, I read your lyrics very cool, kinda reminded me Lou Reed ... in a good way. One thing ... your vocals sounded weird ... out of phase, out of sync, difficult to hear at times, maybe its my speakers ... or my old ears. Good Job!
Really good production of the rhythm section and solo.

Hello Elliott,
Thank you for the kind words.
I 100% agree regarding the weird vocals bit. It’s almost as if the doubled vocal was rendered out of phase with the main vocal after I uploaded it to YouTube (it’s like it’s a touch different in pitch and possibly a very small amount ahead or behind in time). I listened to the pre-uploaded file and it sounded fine, I think. Still, it’s something to look out for in future uploads to YouTube, and perhaps preview them before sharing. I have a couple of tunes on SoundCloud, and the weirdness isn’t there.
Thank you also for the Lou Reed comment. He is a fascinating musician. In fact, excluding any Dire Straits or Mark Knopfler albums, I think Reed’s New York is one of my favorites. He has had many prickly interviews which can be uncomfortable to watch, but I felt that Charlie Rose got the best out of him.

You created a clear character sketch of the lady. Band sounds great in the mix with good instrument choices. There's a very laid back feel to the song.
