This is a song that was inspired by my daughter. She was in a very controlling relationship and finally said enough...we're done. Nothing physical because, well, that would not have been tolerated at all by daddy, but it was emotional and mental control.... I digress..... the song that came after finding out about that situation.

He's Gone

The Band

Vocals: Solaria

Synth tracks, vocal programming, and electric guitar: H. Hartley

Synth pad: RT # 1267
B3 Organ: RT 686

Bass, Drums are synths. Lead synth Synth Master.

I hope you enjoy this song. Comments and advice appreciated.

LYRICS:

[Verse 1]
He said she loved me But it was all a lie
He played with my heart Made me wanna cry
But now he's gone And I feel so free No more tears in my eyes I can finally see

[Verse 2]
He used to control me With his every move
But I found my voice I got nothing to prove I'm dancing on my own Without a care
I'm glad he's gone Now I'm breathing in the air

[Chorus]
I'm glad he's gone
No more pain No more sorrow
I'm glad he's gone
Gonna live for today and tomorrow
I'm glad she's gone I'm moving on
Gonna be alright I'm glad he's gone
Now it's my time to shine

Verse 1 repeat

(Verse 4)
I'm moving forward now I've let go of the past
I've found my voice, I'm living free at last
I'm dancing on my own without a care
Yeah I'm glad he's gone now I'm breathing in the air

Chorus

Great Rock Song ... uplifting message for your daughter ... Fantastic Mix, Production, and overall high quality record. The Synth V vocal is so real ... I never heard Solaria sing in that tone ... she sounds almost like a young man, rather than a female. Very good job, with this one.

Nice work, and geat message. Unique, original sounds - good mix too. There was a lot of reverb on the voice, but I think it kind of suits the style.

Herb,

That's a great song with a great vocal. Love what you have done with Synth V. The band is also excellent and a perfect fit with this voice.

Herb, this sounds GREAT! Very spacious and musical. What I really like is your evolutionary circle of the synth vocal. Back in the day, human vocalists used autotune to sound like synths. Recently, humans use synth vocalists to sound like humans. But this is a synth vocalist sounding like a human trying to sound like a synth. It's brilliant, and just...PERFECT.

Being a Dad is work, but mostly worth it. Ha!

Great song!

COOL stuff.
Tere were a couple of spots where I thought the synthvox phrasing was a little stiff but that's small beans. The synth solo made me think, even more, of The Cars.
Nice one.

Knowing the background, it's hard not to be moved by this song. Well done Dad.
It's a strong song, with a great hook. I really enjoyed the creative backing provided for Solaria and the excellent production.

Perfect lyrics that only a dad can create. I'm happy for your daugter. I really like your songcraft, Herb. You always make catchy melodies with relatabe lyrics. Very pro right from the germ of an idea to the sustaining ending.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Herb...really, really nice rock song...Solaria sounds great....nice synth lead...I agree with Marty...this sounds like it was written from the perspective of the girl (and/or her father!)...I really like the up-tempo feel...a positive take on a negative situation (rotten, loser guy)...working with the Synth voices is a challenge but you nailed a realistic rock vocal here!

Elliott.... Glad you like it. I don't think I did anything special with Solaria on the vocals.... Just the normal stuff.

Thanks

Thanks for listening. I thought there was an extraordinary amount of reverb on the lead synth but then I soloed the track and realized that that's the way it came out of the box.... Dripping wet.

Herb, you have always made really appealing music from the first years back in the cakewalk days. Your production is always smooth and polished and has steadily shown improvement. This was a great example of what can be done with the tools we have today. I always love your guitar work. Someone said it had a Cars vibe i agree, but it also had a Herb vibe. Nice work old friend.

Thanks Ron. With band in a box, my goal was always to make it sound like a bunch of really good musicians playing together. So that's the same philosophy I use when approaching using a synthetic singer. Make it good enough to fool the listener.

Glad you like it.

The cars. I liked that group back in the day. A couple of really good pop albums.

Great drums riff, reminds me of Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure". Solaria sounds as natural as you can get these voices to be.

The songwriting is excellent, the lyrics are inspiring.

Bravo.

The song is pretty cool. Really cool in fact.

But I hate to say I'm confused.

A man was mean to your daughter.

You are Herb Hartley.

You are a true Patriot. In every way known to man. Terrorists faint at the sound of your name. And we know why.

You're a Marine.

You're crazy.

Why isn't the song called Hope You're Having Fun in Heaven. Or, Gone. And I Mean: GONE GONE. Or, Hubby the Headless Chicken Runner?*

Sitting here scratching my jaw on this one.

* I hope someone appreciates my subtle yet clever Warren Zevon reference.

Perfect teen rock song, I think you expressed the feeling and what's going on pretty well.
Along with your good production, I wouldn't be surprised to hear this song on the radio.
