BADBYE (New Mix)
I put this song up on the forum a few days ago but after a few suggestions from people with better ears than my old things, I decided to remix it.
I think it’s a much better mix.
Please have a listen or two and let me know what you think.
Your comments and suggestion will be most appreciated.
BADBYE, is a song about a breakup. I wrote it 30 years ago when I was trying to hold my marriage together. I wrote it, including the lyrics, hoping to persuade my wife to stay.
I failed*.
This is an instrumental version - you don't want to hear me sing - in hindsight, it could have been my singing that drove my ex-wife away 😂
I've included the lyrics here in case anybody wants to singalong or, possibly, contribute a vocal track.
I used Kontakt instruments, including an interesting Irish flute, the Electric Mint Session Guitarist and Prime Bass.
The drums are mostly RealDrums featuring Miles McPherson. The heavier middle section features his NashvilleRadioPowerBallad16^5-AB.

BADBYE
18 sec: Verse 1
Forget about the Bob Dylan Concerts.
No, we weren't really there.
Forget about the night at Simpson's in the Strand
or the romance of Maison Prunier.

42 sec: Verse 2
Forget about the trip we took through Europe
in a clapped-out camper van.
And try not to smile when you think back for a while,
and remember the good times if you can.

1 min 7 sec: Middle
I've been accused of nought.
(But) I've been abused for sport.
I'm confused and I’m distraught,
feeling bruised and sore.
(‘cause) I'm losing you for sure.

1 min 30 sec: Musical break

1min 36 sec: Verse 3
Forget about the raising of our children.
No, there's nothing there to share.
I thought we were a team.
That was just a dream.
Now it's ending like a casual affair.

2min 1sec: Middle or guitar solo

2min 26sec: Verse 4
I don't want to dwell now in days past.
There's no future in that.
But we are what we've seen, who we've known and where we’ve been.
And now, you say we’re through,
that you want something new.
And the bad part, the frustrating mad part, the heartbreaking sad part
is there’s nothing I can do.

Mike, enjoyed your song! You made it easy to sing along. That was pretty cool. Nice job creating art from your loss, and congratulations on moving on to that better place!

Hi Mike,

It's great to hear your music again, and what a nice way to return. Although a sad story, it's a very nice song. Emjoyed it a lot.

Great to hear from you. Take care,

Alan

I REALLY look forward to hearing a voice on this - a lovely bed for a good voice to recline upon...and the melody is sorted too.

Love the title, Mike. I have a list of possible song titles of ones that pop into my head. This one would've been at the top. Read the lyrics before pushing Play. Yeow, some great memories there. I especially like the happy ending where you say "I found and married a wonderful woman and we have been together for 23 years." Beautiful. That flute is perfect, as is the whole production. Wonderful sound, Mike.

Enjoy whatever happens!

That was nice. The lyrics are sad.

It was easy to follow along with the melody.

The entire production supports the very melancholy lyric well.
Nice track selection and we always enjoy an open mix like this.
It really sounds great on the monitors.

A sad topic but very well done!

Thanks Mario.
I was so glad to read your comment on the flute. I chopped and changed the melody instrument so many times to finally settle on that Irish flute.
Thanks for listening.

Hi, Mike.

Pleasant melody, good varied arrangement.

I would have preferred a touch (more) reverb on the Irish flute, but that's just a nit.

Nice listen all the way through! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Maybe someone from the User Showcase will offer to put down a vocal track with my lyrics.

Excellent emotional lyrics with a darn good melody. I was trying to sing along with the flute.

You got a good song that needs to go further with an added singer.

Mike, I didn't catch the original posting but I sure like this. The flute really makes it.

Find a good vocalist for this and it could be radio-ready.

Great job.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.
