Hi all, This song is about lyrics. Sometimes the meaning of words doesn't really care. How the words sound together becomes the priority... This is a more poetic point of view. Christian Braut is the singer. https://soundcloud.com/christian-devienne/du-mohican-a-lalgonquin-avec-monsieur-gontrandRD KlezmerHora34 RT 1178 Electric Bass RT 1181 Acoustic Guitar RT 3415 Banjo RT 4302 Acoustic Guitar RT 1179 Fiddle RT 3268 Cello

Christian,
Really enjoyed this one. I know almost no French, c’est la vie, but the arrangement - which is wonderful - certainly conveys a serious and perhaps grave topic. The vocal delivery - which is also wonderful - conveys this, too. I really enjoyed the overlaying of the instruments, some coming to prominence, then fading away, like the banjo.
Great job. Merci.

Hi Tom, Thank you for your comments. The topic isn't really serious. It's about the sonority of some words.

Beautiful and cool sounding song, Chris. I don't speak French either, but understand the exercise. Here's an old quote by Paul Simon on how he writes songs...
"Once I pick a key and start to play, I sing and words that come into my head without trying to make any sense out of them. I tend to sing easy words with a concentration on "oos" and "ah" sounds, which are musically pleasing to me. I also like words beginning with "g's" and "l's" and words that have "t's" and "k's" in them. Sometimes during this stream of consciousness singing, a phrase will develop that has a naturalness and a meaning, in which case I keep it and start to build a song around it..."
Read that for the first time over 50 years ago, and sometimes still go back to the sound-based "Paul Simon method". I mean, it worked for him, right?

Chris, I don't speak French but that doesn't stop me from knowing a great song when I hear it and this is a great song. Great vocal Super arrangement and instrumentation. Great mix also

Thanks DC Ron and Mario. Paul Simon is not only an excellent guitarist, composer and performer. But he is also a remarkable lyricist.

Thanks DC Ron and Mario. Paul Simon is not only an excellent guitarist, composer and performer. But he is also a remarkable lyricist. Remarkable indeed. Paul maybe my favorite singer/songwriter. On the other hand, over the years he's had some pretty funny responses to lyrical analysis of Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard. Like your song, it does sound GREAT though.

Ah, there is something about the French language. It just sounds so lyrical. I really enjoyed the vocal delivery in this song as well as the sensitive, subtle arrangement of the backing tracks. Mike
