Tears to Cry - 08/04/2024 [align:center][/align]

Here is a link to the FLAC file in my Google Drive:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/16kUqSUC6DzVHDa1qqeM3rSiIvBQ0_cQG/view?usp=sharing

I do not have a thorough itemization of the production changes, but be assured I considered all the prior comments and suggestions. Here is a high-level summary of changes:

Key points
• The song is 4 mins and 37 secs. Down from the original 5 mins and 15 secs. I could cut more space – but I felt some sections needed to breath for that extra bar or two.
• I left in the Jazz Intro … it is my signature
• Removed the BIAB synth ooo’s
• Removed (dualing) piano and guitar backing. Replaced with Session Guitars Strummed acoustic – two different patterns panned L and R as the primary backing through the whole song.
• Brought in and out soloists for: Piano, Violin and Cello at different times to add interest.
• Re-sung the vocals. In fact, over and over. Tuned with Melodyn and added only light reverb as an effect. I hope to work more on these because I think I can do a bit better.

I don't mind the intro. It leads into the song in an unusual way, but the contrast is not excessive in my view.

Definitely a melancholy tune, and it has significant meaning to you. It only has to deliver exactly what you want it to, after all, it's your song.

Version 2 is a dramatic leap forward. Your vocal stands out. I like the way you bring the various instruments in and out throughout the song. The two guitars works but can be better. I have one suggestion.

Use delay or reverb to mirror each guitar track to the opposite channel. Set the volume of each mirror low enough that it can barely be heard in the mix.

This will add some ear candy to the mix.

Final version of No Tears to Cry has gone to publishing. Thanks to all who helped me workout the production process. Your input was very helpful. Sorry the tune remained so long, but there was a lot I wanted to do and say. In the end I am happy with the results. I think the vocal lays well in the mix. In addition, the piano and violin interludes were entirely played by me. That is rare, but I hope to do it a lot more in the future.

In just a few weeks I will reach the one year anniversary of my wife's hospitalization when my role as her full time caregiver began. Never thought we would go through this together but I guess no one ever does. Hold on to your loved ones. Nothing is for ever.

Dan

How long one makes a song depends an awful lot of whether one is being popular/commercial or whether one has something to say ... musically, socially, whatever.

I can confidently say that most of my musical favourites are over 5 minutes long!
And I also like this song a lot.

I imagine that the song relates to the couple of sentences on that page. You have my thoughts and my sympathy.

It is a lovely song Dan. Touching and sad but also so powerful with your expression of dedication and love! Beautiful song! Well written, nicely performed and some mighty fine production.

I'm so sorry for the pain and suffering you and your wife are experiencing. And so impressed by your dedication to her and love for her.
