Everyone should watch this. And understand what it means.
I was just being disappointed... youknow?....

AI is a tool one may or may not use. Much like BiaB where one can select what part(s) they like to jam or sing along with. But much like BiaB I would never use it to generate an entire song. I have to much fun playing my instruments to stop now.
Using AI to to get ideas is much like the ideas I get from sections of the melodist and the soloist. I never use the entire thing: I have never seen a MIDI melody generating program that plays or sounds organic!
Hopefully generating an entire song in AI is a passing fad.
I also agree with Floyd.
PS - I will use AI to generate an entire song the day cows can fly.
YMMV

AI cannot be copyrighted which means there’s no money in it — except for those who sell the tools.
I use it for certain tasks that save time but, as part of the creative process, I find it to be a time waster. I don’t have enough time to develop all my original ideas, don’t need fake ones, too.

AI for songwriting is in its infancy. Or perhaps a toddler, not an infant.
Someday, AI will write a song that you won't be able to identify as an AI creation. It's just a matter of time.
Remember when CGI animation looked like everything was floating? It's hard to tell now.
I don't know if AI will ever create a great song, but how many songs are hits that are just mundane copies of older songs, just different enough to get around copyright protection. AI will eventually be able to do this.
SIlver Convention had a hit with these lyrics:
||: Get up and boogie, Get up and boogie, Get up and boogie, Tha'ts right :|| repeated again and again
I think AI could do that.
What I think it will lack, is that spark of imagination where the songwriter does something unpredictable, even wrong, but sounds so right.

I agree with this guy's conclusion when he says: If I could just click a button and do it . . . I wouldn't.
And it's a certainty that some (perhaps many) will fully embrace Alexa, write, record and disseminate a hit song, in whatever genre you want. I'm not one, my physical instruments are too much fun.

That was interesting.
AI vs human.... Man it's downright vicious on social media in the songwriter and musician groups. The discussion is generally anti-AI but at the same time the majority of songs posted are obviously directly out of one of the AI models with the poster claiming they wrote at least the lyrics. Reading the lyrics, yeah that's probably not the case either.
According to Suno, if you are a subscriber, you own the copyright and since there's really no screening from the copyright office I don't see how you couldn't register an AI generated song with the LOC.
Personally, I see it as another tool to use in the songwriting process. It's not going to go away. In fact, it will continue to develop skills and keep getting better day by day. Just look at synth voices. A little over a year ago those things were nothing short of fake sounding and cringe worthy. However, now, they have come so far in a year that they have capable of fooling the listener who is now wondering who the singer is on the song.
Technology is always changing and nothing will reverse it. You don't have to use it if you don't want to but it's going to be adopted, adapted, and used by other musicians and writers in their work.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I think in the second example Suno/sunato/udio would have done much better for the ai submission. Edited to add: I didn’t watch the rest.

People with talent can use AI to generate ideas to create new original content.
People without talent will use it as a substitute for talent.
The amount of AI you left in that lyric and that melody and that production might be used as a measure of that.

I wouldn't want to push a button and have a song come out. That becomes playing music instead of making music.
But I wouldn't mind AI as an inspirational tool.
In any case, the odds of me writing a hit song, with or without AI's help is very slim.
On the other hand, if I was a popular artist with a string of hits, or a record producer who needs to turn a profit on every song, and I was temporarily under pressure and out of ideas, I just might want to push a button and have a song come out.
Punch cards put the fabric weavers out of business, and all the resistance and attacks by the Luddites didn't get their jobs back.
When digital recording appeared, all my tape splicing and other analog skills were worthless. But the new digital recording skills made everything better.
Nobody needs to learn how to drive a stick shift, or manually crank a Model T Ford anymore. CGI put plenty of special effects people out of work. Floppy Disk makers had to find something else to do.
AI is here, if it is affecting your business songwriting, photography, or whatever, learn how to use it, or go to a “plan B”
Once the change happens, there is no going back.

According to Suno, if you are a subscriber, you own the copyright and since there's really no screening from the copyright office I don't see how you couldn't register an AI generated song with the LOC. Because none of that matters. The LOC rarely challenges anything. Registering is a red herring since the LOC wants those fees. The PROs, YouTube, HFA, Spotify, Amazon, Apple, content producers and everyone else who has to cut a check will balk at paying. Since AI cannot be copyrighted, there are no "rights" to enforce i.e. no monies to be earned. This is the issue at the heart of the WGA settlement. If there are no rights to own, producers will be unable to raise money for AI generated scripts. At the moment, AI is much easier to detect than most think it is. That, however, is not my issue because I don't care. People with talent can use AI to generate ideas to create new original content. Yep, that is an excellent use. I thought that it would be a major time saver and save me many of hours of research. Unfortunately, I need to fact-check everything and I have yet to find anything even 50% accurate, dammit.

I think that when the streaming services and rights holders like Warner Brothers start using AI to generate content. AI will be copyrightable
For me. The question isn’t if this will happen it’s when it will happen.

For me. The question isn’t if this will happen it’s when it will happen. Best laugh I've had all morning. Don't hold your breath. In the US, that would require an amendment to the Constitution to repeal Article 1 Section 8. Both the US and the EU are working to codify legislation on this issue. Nobody is arguing that the Librarian of Congress is wrong.

202 New RealTracks Released with Band-in-a-Box 2026!
With Band-in-a-Box® 2026, we've released 202 incredible new RealTracks (in sets 468-488) in a variety of genres—featuring your most requested styles!
Jazz, Funk & World (Sets 468-475):
Our new jazz, funk & blues RealTracks include a groovin’ collection of RealTracks and RealDrums! These include more requested “soul jazz” RealTracks featuring artists Neil Swainson (bass), Charles Treadway (organ), Brent Mason (guitar), and Wes Little (drums). There are new “smooth jazz” styles (4), which include a RealTracks first: muted trumpet, as well as slick new smooth jazz brushes options for drums. Blues lovers will be thrilled—there are more “classic acoustic blues” styles, including guitar (5), bass (4), and drums (10) with blues master Colin Linden, featuring understated and tasty background acoustic soloing, plus brushes drums and acoustic bass. There are also new electric blues RealTracks, including electric blues with PG favorite Johnny Hiland (3) and soulful electric slide guitar from Colin Linden (4). If you love funk & gospel, there are great new options this year, including gospel organ (3) from Charles Treadway, as well as new funk, tango, and rock ’n’ roll drums (3) and bass (1). And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
Check out all the 202 new RealTracks (in sets 468-488)!
And, if you are looking for more, the 2026 49-PAK (for $49) includes an impressive collection of 20 bonus RealTracks, featuring exciting and inspiring additions to add to your RealTracks library. You'll get new country-rhythm guitar styles from PG Music favorites Johnny Hiland and Brent Mason, along with modern-pop grooves that capture today’s radio-ready sound! There are also new indie-folk styles with guitar, bass, 6-string bass used as a high-chording instrument, acoustic guitar, and banjo. Plus, dedicated "cymbal fills" RealDrums provide an added layer that work very well with low-key folky styles with other percussion.
