Promises Hi Folks. Remember me? Has the dust settled yet? Soon find out I guess. Thought I'd gingerly test the waters with this simple song about my ongoing love of trees and nature. Hey there Izzy, liked the new song. I particularly liked the intro and outro. The second verse and middle sounded a little busy in my ears. I don't really know how to fix it, but the vocal seemed a little too low in the mix with an overall bit "jumbled" sound. I sure liked the BG vocals, who did those? Your photo worked well too. I didn't know it was AI until I read your post.

Cool song, Izzy! Like the swingin' attitude and the pulsing bass. Nice vocals, too! Like Brad, I hear something adding mud to the middle section but can't quite figure it out. Might try a mid scoop on the band just to see if that tames it. Am also curious about the BGV. Have heard those fab vocals before but not sure if it was in BiaB or another sound set. Anyway...welcome back!

Izzy...man you had me at that intro....the track is super...that fiddle is so good and so tight with your melody...really really nice vocals...every aspect of this one is so well done ...BiaB has served you well on this and you have enhanced BiaB as well!

Yeah... I remember you. I don't recall why the dust would need settling.... but hey... The real question is does the dust ever really settle?
Cool song. I heard a few sections that were kinda busy. The easy fix is to not have two things "jamming" at the same time. Basic rule of thumb is only one instrument gets to solo or fill at a time. If both parts are playing something really cool.... chose one. What I like to do is let them trade parts back and forth....OR.... if that same break opportunity comes back around.... the second time, use copy/paste and put the really cool part in there. Another option is to drop them both out and let the rhythm handle it. That also puts some very nice dynamics into play.
I enjoyed the song.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

Billiantt song. Love the way it builds and that fiddle is excellent. Ditto the guitar solo, which I feel a lot of songs lack.

Thankyou for your kind words Brad Sadly I mix on cheap headphones and also sadly, I'm not good at mixing. Therefor it is very helpful to me for your good self to reference the muddy parts so that I can take more care on future projects. I appreciate that you took the time to listen and comment. I will try to explain the BV's in reply to Ron.

Hi Ron. Thankyou for your nice comments, and like I said to Brad , the "muddy" comments are is very helpful to me. I use Melodyne in my DAW to create BV's. This is a nutshell explaination so let me know if you need clariffication In your DAW select the parts you want to harmonise (usually the chorus) , copy and paste - in line - onto another track. Do this for how many harmony parts you require. Open the new parts in melodyne, loop play (in daw) the region and use the pich tool to raise or lower notes (sung words) until they sound pleasant to you. Phasing will be a problem so you need to change the parameters Adjust pitch modulation, pitch drift , raise or lower the formant and slow the attack speed of notes Select all notes ,click on the pitch tool- yellow lines appear. Lengthen those yellow lines to their maximun to smooth out the words. Tools to do this are readilly available in Melodyne. Individually the tracks may sound a bit strange but combined the results can be very good. Experiment, have happy accidents, have fun. I can hear you nodding Mario. <grin>.

Thanks Herb.
You went to a lot of trouble to analyse and offer advice. I very much appreciate you taking the time and trouble to do that. I have saved your valuable advice which will be put to good use on my next project. After listening to your music, it is obvious that you know what you are talking about. thanks again Herb.

Sounds cool but I don't see her in your credits.

Like DC Ron, I like the swinging movement with the bass, which creates a really nice groove. The middle section is a bit hectic and it doesn't help that it's almost mono. I think using the whole stereo field and equalizing the individual tracks so they don't stomp on each other too much solves the problem without being too much work.

Sounds good, Izzy. I like the groove and excellent use of BiaB. Good production and mix. There sounds like a background guitar trying to upstage the soloist. How would it be to back him up or remove it for that part? Keep 'em coming, man. Good song.

Izzy, good effort and I've read some excellent constructive criticisms to even make your songs better. Smart group of folks on this forum. For future, could you please include the lyrics eitherin in the Sound Cloud description (my personal preference) or at least within the forum post? Thanks and keep on writing!

Hi Izzy,
I read about your fear you would be forgotten, or dust is alover you. Then I read the posts of people here. Most of them are very nice and also helpful in their views on the song. I saw 'a busy' midpart, female vocals that didn't fit properly and you, needing mix advices. So I got curious and took a listen.
Probably you listen to all of the advices and changed parts in your song ormix, because I heard a most entertaining song! I heard a good mix, nice female yelling on the backgroud and a very good lead vocalist. So, a goode song and no complains from my side. Well, ok, maybe one thing I can think of. I missed a break, or silence, then a bridge (or the other way around) and then the continuing of the song. Maybe with a transposition to give it more tension. But, you don't have to. It is a good song after all!
Hans

Nice use of Real Tracks, and great American song matches well with the choices of backing tracks. It got a little busy in the mix as it grew, and seemed that its fighting your vocal a bit rather than supporting it, but other than a few tweeks its very good.

Hi B.D. Sorry for the late reply.
"I think using the whole stereo field and equalizing the individual tracks so they don't stomp on each other too much solves the problem without being too much work."
Yeah, you're right. learning how to mask the EQ of individual tracks is next on my "how to" list. Thankyou for listening and your suggestion.

And for big, bold arrangements, we have uptempo soul horns (4) featuring a three-part hip horn section with options for a full mix or stems of each individual horn — plus an accompanying rhythm section (4) of drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano!
Rock & Pop (Sets 476–482):
Our new rock & pop RealTracks bring a powerful mix of requested favorites, fresh genres, and modern chart-inspired styles! We have more of our popular “Producer Layered Acoustic Guitars (15)” featuring Band-in-a-Box favorite Brent Mason. We’ve continued our much-requested disco styles (10), and added new Celtic guitar (5) with a more basic, accessible approach than our previous Drop-D or DADGAD offerings. There are also highly requested yacht rock styles (17), inspired by the smooth, polished soft-rock sound of the late ’70s and early ’80s — laid-back grooves, silky electric pianos, warm textures, elegant harmonic movement, and pristine production aesthetics. Fans of heavier styles will love our new glam metal (13), capturing the flashy, high-energy sound of ’80s arena-ready guitar rock. We also have a set of rootsy modern-folk rock (18), with a warm, organic sound combining contemporary folk textures and driving acoustic strumming. And we’ve added lots of new modern pop styles (16) — the kinds of sounds you’re hearing on the radio today, featuring exciting new drums, synths, and cutting-edge RealTracks arrangements.
Country, & Americana (Sets 483–488):
Our new country & Americana RealTracks deliver a rich collection of acoustic, electric, and roots-inspired styles! We have new country pop (9) with legendary guitarist Brent Mason. There is also a potpourri (14) of bouzouki, guitars, banjo, and more, perfect for adding texture and character to contemporary acoustic arrangements. We’ve added funky country guitar (5) with PG favorite Brent Mason, along with classic pedal steel styles (5) featuring steel great Doug Jernigan. There are more country songwriter styles (8) that provide intimate, rootsy foundations for storytelling and modern Americana writing. Finally, we have “background soloing” acoustic guitar (12) with Brent Mason — simpler, but still very tasty acoustic lines designed to sit beautifully behind vocals or act as a subtle standalone solo part.
