Literally finished around 10 minutes or so ago, JUST uploaded ... all feedback very welcome, thanks for listening!

I have a particular thanks to give to PG Music for this one ... the backing track is just PERFECT, in my view at least, for what I intended to do with this song. You'll hear why, I think, when you listen to it. THANK YOU, Dr. Gannon and EVERYONE at PG Music - my songs would never have existed without Band-in-a-Box.

Worth Fighting For

EDIT: In the cold light of day, I've done an alternative version, too, taking away the first piano. It may have been meandering too much, and detracting from the harmonies, I'm not sure - which is why I've left the original version up, too, for people to compare to this other one if they so wish to do. Please note that the second version is louder than the first, so please mind your volume levels and your ears when listening - thanks smile

Worth Fighting For (Version 2)

On comparing them, now, I think I still prefer the first version ... argh!!! But there we are ... see what you like smile If you only have time to listen to one version, perhaps listen to the first one? Thanks smile

EDIT NO. 2: Following everyone's wonderful and extremely kind advice, I've produced a third (hopefully final!) version ... hope this is ok, now? All feedback VERY gratefully received!!!!!

Worth Fighting For (3rd Version)

THE LYRICS:

I know
That you want to go away
"There's no point", you think
If you stay ...

I know
That it is your stance
Not to give us, both,
That one more chance

And yet, if you go, right now
You'll never know what could have been
So, please, before you close that door
Remember: we're worth fighting for.

We're worth fighting for.

I know
That you think we're scarred
By our history, and yes,
It's hard

To drop
All our pride, you see,
Give us one more chance
At victory

And yet, if you do go, right now,
We might as well have never been,

So, please, before you do decide
To close this one last door
Remember, baby, we're but human
But our love's worth fighting for.

WE are worth fighting for.

James,

Great song. I listened to both versions and I prefer Version 1. I think it sounds fuller and more balanced.

Excellent use of Eleanor Forte and a good mix.

Hullo James.
On balance I probably prefer version 2 because it allows the vocal more room to shine. Maybe you could fit the busier piano into the empty space after the first section of the song and at the end to make it interesting.
Have fun.

Really like the feel of this one and the synth voices are so good IMO. In some spots the piano competes against the vox melody but overall it was very good I thought.

James, I listened to both versions and I like the first version the best. It sounds like a last call song at a jazz lounge.
Great use of the synth voice and the RTs
Super mix on both.

James, really love the outside piano accompaniment in the first version and all the little tensions with the lead vocal. It's a form that I just like a lot, even though the 2nd version is a lot safer musically, and still sounds great. I would recommend a few more variations in the vocals, such as small timing or inflection variations in the 1st repetition of "we're worth fighting for" to make the vocals breathe more like the piano. Great job!

Interesting song. No one can ever claim that you're a boring 1, 4, 5 progression writer. Cool and interesting chord choices.
The vocal seems rushed and stiff in a few places but overall, well done.

I'm not sure either version has a piano part that really does the song justice. The first one is noodling and rambling with distracting stuff. The second one is a lot of plunking chords. The part really needs a minimalist approach but with tasty fills and arpeggiated chords that move smartly rather than plod along.

I like the song.

Bob: thank you so much.

Vic: you're, as usual, spot on. See below! smile

Dewey: thanks! I've tried to fix the piano playing ... see below smile

Mario: thanks!

Ron: I've tried to make the piano sound better - see what you think, if you have time, below? Thanks!

Herb: absolutely spot on. See below!

I've listened to everyone's great advice and tried to change things (hopefully, for the better smile ) around a little, re-doing the piano part, mostly. See what you think, if you have time? This is the third - hopefully, the final - version. THANKS for ALL your wonderful feedback!!!

James,

I listened to the 3rd version.
An interesting BAND choice. And some interesting melody movements.
The lyric strikes me as Pop Ballad. The jazz BAND would suit something more sorrowful??? Seems a disconnect there (opinion).
Keep 'em coming.

I'll just say Version 2 as it has more vibe to it.

Floyd, WaoBand, Ghostgum:

Thank you so much. You all are far too kind. I'm so glad you enjoyed the song.

Ghostgum: yes, writing for a voice who can actually sing anything I throw "her" way, as opposed to my own, limited vocal range, does make a difference for me, I feel - I feel free to take more risks in my writing, so ... I'm glad you enjoy what I'm trying to do! smile Thanks!!!
