Even closer: use BIAB -> F8 -> Generate New for the umpteenth time to get a better take, until you realize that the pre-selected track is not the one you want to change. Ahh yes, the 'ol "working on the wrong track", what a classic! My technique with plugins is turn on Bypass, adjust the plugin controls until I hear a difference, then back off by half.  The perfect technique for making your snare sound good.
