This is a song I have recorded several different ways with several different meanings.
This version is about a man on death row, the night before his sentence is to be carried out, having an imaginary conversation with an imaginary girlfriend about their future plans.
All instrumentation was done with BIAB and transferred to Reaper for production. I perform all vocals except the backing Oohs and Aahs. This is one of my earliest BIAB tunes and I was still pretty green but the song turned out fairly well.
I hope you enjoy your listen.

Hello Honey
words and music Jim Gear

Hello honey I got
Something on my mind
Ain't got no money, honey
So let's spend my time

Cause I just want
Someone to talk to
And I just want
To spend some time with you

Can you hear the thunder
Don't it make you wonder
Did the weather man get it wrong

We'll hide away
From the storming

Can you see the lightning
Don't let it get you frightened
Dry your eyes it won't be long

I'm leaving
In the morning

We'll sail across the balmy seas
On the gentle breeze

This story
Is the last goodbye from me

Hello honey I got
Something on my mind

You and me
When our back's against the wall
You and me
We might tumble and fall
You and me

Jim, well, this DID turn out very well indeed. Nice opening steel guitar, and super vocals, harmonies and background vocals. Interesting death row context, since it's not revealed by the lyrics. But I totally get it and use similar devices to provide lyrical background to the music. Anyway...great job!

Hi, Jim.

Nice song - pleasant and relaxing. Early or not, still a good tune.

Of course, that's in contrast to the setting you laid out, but since none of that is actually in the song, I can ignore that part, just like the narrator. wink

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Love the instrumentation in this song. Excellent vocals too,

Good tune, Jim.
Good simple lyric that could relate to any romantic situation no matter what the back story is.
My only suggestions would be to take cut or turn down an instrument or two that are clashing with each other and the vocal.
The first "Hello honey I got something on my mind" lines sound a little harsh so I would turn down the harmony part a little there or even cut it out of the whole verse.
Good one.
Vic

vicarn,

Thanks for the suggestions. I agree 100%.
This was my second attempt using BIAB. I recorded it in January. I was also brand new to using Reaper as my DAW so I was overloaded with new tech and just trying to get a new production process down.
I have since produced another five recordings with each one being a little tighter than the previous.
I will probably go back and polish on this one in the future.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

Jim, you said you were "pretty green" but I think this is golden!
Great mix, super vocal and lyrics.
It must have been hard mixing all of those instruments and getting them to blend so well.

PS - you can drop that green part now!

Ah, green has a lot of blue in it and yelllow is added for the warm sunshine. Yep, in that way you may have been green, Jim, but you are a true artist who turns it into gold. Musical alchemy at it's best. Very pleasing production with a pleasingly smooth vocal.

Enjoy whatever happens!

This has that soft gentle sound reminiscent of the early part of the 70s. Nice flowing melody. Good job putting the band together.
