To differentiate between the instrumental and vocal versions of "Deya Flows" I've renamed the vocal versions "Flowing Lady Deya" as it's the key lyric in the song. I discovered Argentinean vocalist, Denisse Ferrara, on Fiverr, and she amazingly supplied 9 vocal tracks for this song. I went for a foreign accent vocal to give the song a 'world' flavour, but the downside of that is that some words become obscured due to accent. I'm nonetheless extremely pleased with the result of these vocals - Denisse has brought the song to life - but had it been possible to work in a studio with her it would have been even better. In the main vocal track I had to up the gain over some phrases and lower 2 or 3, making 24 changes in total, then in the 2nd vocal track I did the same 4 times. All in all it took me 2 weeks to get the balance of all 9 tracks as I wanted them.

I now have 3 different rhythm section versions for the song - besides this and the 'baroque' I have a new 'smooth jazz' version - and out of the 3, Denisse chose this rock version. An Indian singer with a superb crystal pure voice chose the 'baroque', but I only received 3 files from her and alas I doubt I can use them, in part due to some of the pronunciations, so next I'll go for a 1st language English vocalist.

As this is a long intro, full lyrics are on the YouTube post - so PLEASE CLICK ON 'WATCH ON YOUTUBE'. Other than the title and end title images there's only one image in the video so as not to detract from the music and lyrics.

Chay, great sounding version! Denisse does a great job on all the vocals, and I wasn't bothered by pronunciation whatsoever. Great job by you on the arrangement and mix. The long guitar solo turned out nice, too. And the ending was very cool. You have a wonderful way of exploring your musical ideas that I lack the patience and imagination for. But I really enjoy listening to how you do it.

Chay,

A great song, super vocals even if I couldn't understand some of the words.
It must have been very difficult to mix this, you did a great job on the mix.
Nice guitar licks and a very catchy groove.
An outstanding song.

Thanks for the response, Bob. So much better to have a real singer as even with harmonies a SynthV attempt wouldn't have done the job.

Thanks for your positive comment, DC. I added a minor touch of reverb and distortion to the guitar solo as it sounded too clean and sharp against the vocals. Having now produced a song with BiaB instrumentation I now want to do more as opposed to instrumentals, but the only songs I have ready to go require male vocals and I'd have to sing those myself as I wouldn't trust another to sing them the way I want them sung. The problem is that my environment is totally unsuitable for recording in.

It was a difficult mix, Mario, as just having the vocal tracks meant remixing the the instrumentation. I was amazed at how many stem files Denisse sent me, so they took me ages to balance right. The one main flaw in the vocals is the 2 times she sings "I love you" the lead vocal is slightly flat, while the harmony files aren't, so I had to increase the gain on the harmony to mask the flat. But Denisse was great to work with as besides being experienceds he's also super-friendly. I'll definitely hire her again if I have a new song for female vocals.

Yeow, I love those vocals. So well done --and you provided some excellent lyrics for them and a wonderfully flowing melody. Very creative changes, Chay, and your video productions are second to none. Good lineup of musicians and a terrific mix. Much enjoyed, Chay. A lot of work went into this and a lot of reward came out of it.

Enjoy whatever happens!

No pronunciation issues with us.

She has a great pop voice - without going over the top trying to prove it.

Excellent write and session players and you wrapped it in a mix that sounds really good on our Kalis.

Well done!

Thanks, Marty! My next challenge is to get the 'baroque' version done. I've used Denisse's vocals as a sample in that for a native English speaking vocalist's try at it, but Fiverr's slightly risky because if a vocalist doesn't work out it's money lost.

Thanks for the response, J&B In the first files D sent me there were a few poor pronunciations, most of which were gone after a revision. There are still 2 words I'd liked to have been clearer, but due to accent I don't think it's possible to get a perfect take. I'm still extremely pleased with the result.

Hi, Chay.

Very nice sound!

I thought the doubled vocal on the introduction made the vocals a bit hard to make out, but you obviously like the sound, so... laugh

Hello Wao,

Thanks for drawing me to your song. I love that subtle island feel. Really nice harmonies and guitar solo too. I actually had to look up the meaning of Deya as I wasn't familiar with the concept. Now I know.

I like the song, tasteful and good choice of instruments and well arranged.
The best thing is the vocals (as they always should be in a song).

As others have said, there are a few small flaws with the vocals, but I wouldn't lose any sleep about that, they work perfectly for the song.
Denisse was definitely a good choice!

Thanks for the response, Dave. Re the long guitar solo, it's just too good to have shortened it. Though that said, most of my posts have 3 cycles ('choruses') of the chord structure as I like to have a beginning, middle and end, and I don't like the idea of cutting a cycle in half or whatever to shorten the piece or any section.
