Hi Alistair, It sounds like you set the 3/4 time using Bar Settings (F5) for the number of "beats in this bar". The best way to set waltz time is to choose a waltz style in Stylepicker. There is a quick filter in Stylepicker (under Time Sig) that will make it much easier to locate the 3/4 styles.
