Badbye (Vocal Version)
I put this song up recently on the forum as an instrumental and I received many generous comments. I also mentioned that I had written lyrics for the song, hoping someone might volunteer a vocal.
I'm pleased to report I found a singer (not from the forum), and I think he does a wonderful job.
Please have a listen or two and let me know what you think.
Your comments and suggestion will be most appreciated.

BADBYE, is a song about a breakup. I wrote it 30 years ago when I was trying to hold my marriage together. I wrote it, including the lyrics, hoping to persuade my wife to stay.
I failed.
*******
I used Kontakt instruments, including the Electric Mint Session Guitarist and Prime Bass.
The drums are mostly RealDrums featuring Miles McPherson. The heavier middle section features his NashvilleRadioPowerBallad16^5-AB.
Vocals: Richie George

Badbye (Vocal Version)

Forget about the Bob Dylan Concerts.
No, we weren't really there.
Forget about the night at Simpson's in the Strand
or the romance of Maison Prunier.

Forget about the trip we took through Europe
in a clapped-out camper van.
And try not to smile when you think back for a while,
and remember the good times if you can.

I've been accused of nought.
(But) I've been abused for sport.
I'm confused and I’m distraught,
feeling blue and forlorn.
(‘cause) I'm losing you for sure.

Forget about the raising of our children.
No, there's nothing there to share.
I thought we were a team.
That was just a dream.
Now it's ending like a casual affair.

Guitar solo

I don't want to dwell now in days past.
There's no future in that.
But we are what we've seen, who we've known and where we’ve been.
And now, you say we’re through,
that you want something new.
And the bad part, the frustrating mad part, the heart-breaking sad part
is there’s nothing I can do.

Mike, sad song, tastefully composed and produced. Know that's a relatable topic for many. Really like your harmonic development throughout the song, and that final section is especially cool. Richie does a really nice vocals, too. Congratulations on finally "finishing" this one after so many years! Amazing how many new possibilities are enabled through our virtual environment...

Hi Mike and Richie
Very nice song.
Richie's voice is really perfect for this song.
The BiaB band is also very well chosen.
Great that the song was finished after such a long time.
Maybe you will do more songs with Richie.
Great work from both of you.

Well, that did what I'd hoped.
Good vocal telling a good story with a good backing all making the whole greater than the parts.
A few things I noticed:
The vocal sounds more distant in the last section - either distanced by reverb or distance from the microphone. I'd like it to be back where it was.
The solo could do with a couple of pick up notes before beginning where it does. There's a gap between the vocal & the start of the solo that could be exploited as you did with the fills.
There's a little sibilant stuff that is generally not too bad but mangles "smile" so that it comes across as shmile.
Excellent stuff Mike, excellent.

An excellent song, well-written and nicely sung.

I agree with rayc's comment

I would add the guitar solo sounds as if it was recorded in an entirely different space. I bit of reverb might help to make it more like part of the overall production.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

WOW what a great song ... the lyrics really touched me. There are so many "break up" songs, but this one takes a fresh approach and tells a story of a lifetime relationship gone bad. The music is a whole other level of greatness .... really like the bass lines, and the way it slowed down with the lyrics in the last verse, a very difficult thing to do in BIAB. The vocals fit the mood of the song perfectly. Excellent job on production, mix. NICE !!!

Hi Mike,

It feels good to complete a song, doesn't it? Especially when it's over a long timeframe.

Loved the backing tracks. I do agree with a previous comment about a little more reverb on the lead guitar would have been nice. Your singer did a nice job for you.

Although a sad story, it was very pretty. Good work!

Alan

We love the arrangement with the intensity building and then reducing.
And the tempo slowing in the last verse is very effective.

This is a well crafted melancholic personal narrative indeed.
Your son’s vocal is great and reminds us of Rod Stewart

The entire band and mix sound good on our monitors.

And we enjoyed it!
