...for 2 weeks, I think? At Audio Plugin Deals...

https://audioplugin.deals/product/brandenburg-piano-by-ik-multimedia/

Haven't tried them, so I cannot attest to the sound quality.

Thanks.

EDIT: tried to download. This is a third-party site and the 'purchase' does not show up in the normal IK Multimedia account. I'm not sure I will proceed.

Trivia but not about this piano: the name Brandenburg is special to trumpet players. Playing Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos is extraordinarily difficult. There are a few piccolo trumpet players who specialize in doing only this (it’s that difficult). I tried it once; not going to happen.😎

Matt, when I "purchased" I immediately received an IKM serial number and instructions to open the IKM Product Manager to install. Tried that and it worked. Haven't listened to the sounds, but seems legit so far.

UPDATE: Loaded the sounds and they play fine in Sample Tank 3. Nice sounding piano, will have to play with it...

Thanks. I think my problem is that I already have an account with IK Multimedia for several other things, but this purchase didn't give me a way to connect them. I went back and saw that there is a caution that this download will not appear on my IKM account and it says to create a new account, but the details are fuzzy.

Matt, I bought an IKM Studio Max version a few years back and the Brandenburg piano loaded under my existing account into my IKM Product Manager and appears alongside the rest of my Studio Max purchases. It's now just another selection under Sample Tank 3. So definitely connected. Frankly, I have WAY more sounds than I'll ever need, but free is free...

I got the serial right away, registered, installed - "correctly" according to IKM app.
The Brandenburg is still grayed-out and tells me it needs to be authorized and sends me to the app. I've re-registered and re-installed - no love.

I downloaded the sounds, unpacked, ran the installer. No change.

I copied the unpacked items to what I believe would be the appropriate ST3 folders. No love.

If anyone has any clues, I'd appreciate hearing 'em...

Floyd, hmmm. When I ran the "Sounds Download" from my IKM "My Products" page , the default directory was my ST3 directory. I selected it, and that worked for me.

I do dislike these convoluted Product Mangers that require you to go outside the Product Manager to actually manage your product. Doh!

Ron, remember that when you bought this piano, it would have been through IK Multimedia. This free offer is not.

APD simply provides a serial number. Everything after that IS through IK Multimedia - product registration, download, install....

Matt, sorry for my confused sounding reply. I "puchased" Brandenburg pianos (which I did not have) for FREE last night. The serial number comes by email from audioplugin.deals, but that serial number is valid when used in the IKM Product Manager, and Brandenburg pianos will then show up on your IKM My Products page. A lot of 3rd party sellers work like this, and I've never had a problem.

I’ll take another look. I assume I can take the serial number and enter it into the IKM site, then the download will appear?

I had to use the OLD IK Authorization Manager, instead of the current Product Manager.

Once I entered the serial in it, the piano showed up in ST4.

Matt, there is probably more than one way to do this. I entered the serial number in the IKM Product Manager (their app) after which the sound files were available to download from the IKM My Products page on the IKM site. Floyd used a different method that worked as well.

I had the exact same experience. I wasted over an hour on the installation, uninstall, reinstall, uninstall and reinstall and authorization of the "freebie". IKM's online "How To" documentation is dead wrong.

IKM's new marketing slogan should be:

IKM, where our left hands have no idea what our right hands are doing. That's what makes us great piano players!

I'm glad I looked. Found it in my ST3 libraries. When I opened up SampleTank 4 and startrd to search, there is was. It's a nice VI but I have so many now, don't know if I'll ever use it.

I grabbed this deal . It's a really nice sounding piano with a number of variations/presets with several of those being useful.

I had to download the product manager.
I downloaded the Brandenburg but discovered that I needed to have sample tank 4 and the default sound samples with it. Once I got all of it, everything worked perfectly.

If you are not an IK media user as I was.... There's a lot of other really good software and sounds that are fully functional and totally free.

I decided that I need to go through my vsti instruments and fx to weed out the stuff that I don't use. Some of the stuff that doesn't sound like I want, or is difficult to use, or was a demo or limited version and now just takes up a lot of valuable hard drive real estate.

I might work on that this week.

But yeah.... This IK deal is good.

As a side note.... I really need to get myself a piano with 88 keys. Just saying.

QUESTIONS ?? re pianos.

1..is this thread indicative that the current pg piano rt content is inadequate in some way ?? if so maybe users should indicate where the shortfalls are and maybe make suggestions re the type of piano sounds desired. thus saveing users money.
i would far prefer to use pg content where i can instead of dealing with vsti's.

2..personally i feel if one digs there is some pretty good pg piano rt content...eg vancouver piano.
personally i like the sound of a bosendorfer.
as a lover of victor borge comedy sketches i used to like his piano sounds.

happiness.

1. Absolutely. While the real tracks are good for fills and general background stuff you can't get them to play specific licks. If you want something that is "signature sound" level playing, you have to play it yourself. I've run into this multiple times when writing a song. I hear a certain part and I know the real tracks are never going to deliver it. My only option is to play it with a good quality sample.

2. The sound quality of the real tracks is not the issue.

The sounds of the RT pianos is, in fact, sometimes the issue.
Especially the earlier RTs.
There is sometimes a "wash" of reverb-i-nessthat does not work in some mixes.
The solution to that is to use the MIDI Supertrack instead (most pianos have them).
You get the same performance, but can use whatever piano vst works for you. Easier to fit-in-the-mix.

This is true.... not only for the pianos but especially on the guitars and other instruments as well.

I think PG would be well served to go back and have a good look at all of the real tracks from the early days and perhaps either remove them or better yet, record them again knowing what they now know and using better techniques in the studio. Of course.... if they all translate well into the super midi tracks... using that method might be a good "fix".

This is the truth. Stopped using the squishy sounding RT pianos many years ago. I'll audition a RT piano in BiaB then export the MIDI transcript to a DAW and use a piano VI, usually Waves Grand Rhapsody. But I may post a piano-heavy song using Blandenburg piano just for fun...

Yes. Unlike the Kontakt/Kontakt Player model, SampleTank is always free. The paid versions include more libraries, that’s all. Here’s a link to all of the free IK CS (Custom Shop) players. IK CS Downloads

Brandenburg pianos demo

Here's a quick demo of the Brandenburg piano sounds in a BiaB song arrangement with vocalist. For the first 30 seconds or so the piano can be heard clearly on its own. For the rest of the song it's in the mix except for the section with BGVs near the end. I did use the Brandenburg samples labeled "bright" since I liked the way it sits in the mix better. No other tweaks or FX added.

I like this VI enough, but maybe not enough to replace my go to. Old dogs, new tricks...

Ron - Thanks for doing this!
A perfect demo. I think. I tells me what I need to know (I appreciate your Producer Hat)

From this, I would label that piano sound "lo-fi". It is rather one-dimensional.
That can be a very good thing in a mix - as you have demonstrated.
This sounds great in the mix - because of its one-dimensional-ness. (I make up good words)

The right reverb might open more possibilities.
But lo-fi-works-in-the-mix is a good thing.

Nice demo. There’s a lot to be said for a piano that sits nicely in the mix. For years, I used the mono piano that was included with the old UVI Player — no longer available in the current version.

My wife’s go-to is the Alan Parsons Imperial Grand, a very nice VI sampled from a Bösendorfer 290 (9’5") owned by Mark Knopfler. It’s included in all of the IK Max bundles or separately.

I’m hoping that IK’s Pianoverse Max 200 module (not yet released) will sound half as nice as the hundred year old Bōsendorfer 200 (6’7") that sits in our home with a newly rebuilt action. Of course we record it live but for client tracks, give me a piano roll to edit any day.
