Safe mode instructs the program to launch using the factory default preference settings and ignore your preference settings. This allows you to test program operation with the factory default preference settings without throwing away your preference settings like "Return To Factory Settings" does.

When adding the instructions and description to the manual it is important to also make sure the user's operating system displays the file suffix as otherwise adding the empty safe mode file may not work. There has been at least one instance where the user was instructed to label a file safemode.txt and safemode.txt.txt was created instead.
