I believe use of a held chord (chord with three dots) is limited to once per bar. However that one time can be on any quarter beat within the bar. At the same time I suspect that on beats two or three a shot (chord with two dots) would likely sound more natural.
Another thing to keep in mind is a held chord will naturally fade out over multiple bars as long as you don't insert a chord into a following bar. The held chord automatically stops and is replaced by whatever new chord is follows. This becomes most important when a held chord is used on beat four.
I do not believe Microchords are compatible with held chords since the Microchords are based on Playable RealTrack sounds and I don't think the Playable RealTrack sounds include Shots or Holds.

One thing you might try is to break up a bar into multiple bars by using the F5 Bar Settings window to set the number of beats per bar to one, two, or three beats then switch back to four beats per bar later.
