I'VE GOT MY EYES ON YOU

This song began a year ago with a chord-progression picked out on guitar. Long before any words formed, I imagined it was going to a slow ballad in a Latin style, but it didn't seem to go anywhere.
When I changed the style to jazz and upped the tempo to 140, it began to take shape.
Within a week I had completed the track. Then I started to add the words. It took a day and a half.

Style is _WOODY.STY (Woody Gospel Swing)

RealTracks in style: ~443:Bass, Acoustic, Jazz Sw 140
RealTracks in style: 2814:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm GospelSwingMike Sw 140
RealTracks in style: ~558:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm Jazz Freddie Sw 140
RealDrums in style:JazzSwingLewis^04-a:Brushes Swirl, Busy Snare , b:Ride and Hihat
RealTracks in song: ~~1218:Vibes, Rhythm Jazz Sw 140
RealTracks in song: ~560:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm Jazz Freddie Sw 140 ('B' only)
RealTracks in song: ~459:Sax, Tenor, Jazz Sw 140 (Extended, Bluesy)

**********************************************
I've Got My Eyes On You

You tell me that you'll love me until the end of time
And you'll be mine for all eternity
But what you say and what you do
are completely diff'rent things
And it feels like you're just messing with me

It comes as no surprise that you tell so many lies
Dark veils I'd never see through
You hope my love is blind but now you're gonna find
That I've got my eyes on you

Whatever time we plan to meet,
you're sure to show up late
With a fabricated reason why
But I'm telling you tonight,
that if you don't do things right
I'll have to say so long, good luck, goodbye

It comes as no surprise that you tell so many lies
Dark veils I'd never see through
You hope my love is blind but now you're gonna find
That I've got my eyes, I've got my eyes
I've got my eyes on you

Hi Brian,

Loved it from beginning to end. Your vocal and arrangement both sparkle. This took me back to the late 1950s when I was ten or eleven yers old.

This is a great example of the classic music of the era. I could hear Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Vic Damone, etc. singing this back then. Very nice work!

Best to you.

Alan

Brian, aaaaah....

LOVE jazz standards, and this fits the form perfectly. Cool changes and those hot-and-cold lyrics are neatly packed in an upbeat melody. Nice band, too.

Enjoyed it!

Brian,

Great song! Alan said exactly what I was thinking - it has that 50s almost supper club feel.

Nicely done.

LOVE jazz standards
.My parents played them constantly, so I grew up listening to Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Al Martino etc. They were never part of my own record collection but, now that I perform regularly in aged-care facilities, they have become a major part of my repertoire.

Thanks, Bob. "50s supper-club" -- that's kind of what I was aiming for and BIAB had just the right tracks. smile

Thank you for that, Brian! It brought a smile to my face. I listen to a lot of old standards but this was fresh. Someone else used the word "sparkle" and I think that hits the nail on the head. It was a stroke of genius to switch to a jazz style.

For someone who doesn't like jazz at all, I quite liked your song, nice drive and really good vocals.
Well done!

Hi Brian.

Tin Pan Alley is my favourite genre of music. I absolutely love what you've done. You've created a wonderful song that sits really comfortably of the works of the latter Tin Pan Alley period. It was a pleasure to listen to your work.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening.

Thank you for your comment. It can be tricky creating something fresh in a style that's been around for decades.

Thank you.
I'm told that Jazz, at least certain types of jazz, is an acquired taste. Glad this one didn't get you reaching for the "Qwik-Ease"

Hi, Brian.

Clever lyric, feels like a standard.

Light jazz works well with your voice. Nice! smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I cut my teeth on folk and country but the last 8 years I've been singing a lot of "standards." Maybe that helps.

I agree with all positive comments so far, except that I felt that the vocals were way too loud in the mix. I love the instrumentation, but I was shocked out of it when the vocals came in. That said the song has great potential and harmony vocals would definitely add to it.

We love a swing reminiscent of the golden era.

This reminds us of a live band in bar in Charleston that we stumbled (not drunk smile ) upon walking along the sidewalk.

Everything is hittin' the note ... vocals, the band (love the vibes) and the production.

Enjoyed it!

Brian, you captured the Tin Pan Alley vibe perfectly!
Super arrangement and vocal.
Charlie Christian on guitar and Lionel Hampton on vibes backed by Count Basie with Hans on the vocal, Loved it!
