You don't need to know theory. PG Music have already done that. What you can do for harmony is to use BIAB or Realband to generate the harmony. Synth V (or BIAB, Realband or Reaper) can then convert the monophonic audio for each harmony track to MIDI. This MIDI could then be used easily in SynthV to create harmony vocals. I have yet to check this out but it should work. It may also be possible to save the harmony as MIDI. I'll get back to you after I've had a play around.
