Link: The Sound Of Silence The plan: a cover version of “The Sound Of Silence” by Simon & Garfunkel, but
arranged like “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, i.e. piano as the main instrument
and a grand finale with a classical orchestra.
The problem: When about 50% of the song was finished, I heard a cover version of the song on the radio,
by the band “Disturbed”, and they did exactly what I had in mind, even if they avoided vocal harmonies.
And their version is brilliant.
I didn't want to do a copy of the “Disturbed” version (if I wanted to do that, I would do a copy of
of Simon & Garfunkel), but I couldn't find a style that suited the song that hadn't been used umpteen
times before.
The solution: the other day it occurred to me that I have developed my own style over the last 2 years.
Not a good style, but, hey, it's MY style.
All mine!
My apologies to Mr. Simon (and to a lesser extent, Mr. Garfunkel) for the abuse of an otherwise brilliant song.
Enjoy what was originally a great song, written by a great songwriter.
