I start nearly every BIAB song project with a midi style for many reasons. To capture the feel and groove of my song, automatic chord, key and tempo entry. Fast regeneration to name a few.
Another reason I've use midi styles and files is a BIAB program setting that I've taken for granted. It's a set and forget setting (it may default on, I'm unsure). Recently, it occurred to me, to post the tip that it helps in reducing the number of Style hits when you're searching the StylePicker.
The setting is 'Suggest RealTrack Replacements when songs are loaded' in the RealTracks drop down menu on the main page. With this setting checked, BIAB will display a green box message showing a comparable RealTracks Style to the current midi song that's loaded. Many RealStyles have underlying midi styles and BIAB is apparently programmed to identify these and display the green box message. You can check the drop down menu and the replacement style will be bracketed. If BIAB doesn't have a comparable style, the 'Find a RealTracks replacement style for current midi file' is greyed out.
brilliant. i too start off the same way with midi styles. also a benefit is two fold...
1..an old clunky pc doesnt get bogged down cos midi is fast. 2..one can get a song idea down fast.
pg midi styles are a goldmine imho.
