Hi All

Appreciate if you would give my song a listen. Any advice, comments are very velcome.

Here's the details:

Song in E Minor.
Style: 'Contemporary Country Ballad, 91 bpm. Drum & bass are real tracks. Guitar and piano is midi = "Goliath" from East West QL

I have added two midi tracks - choir and pizzicato strings - and vocal.

Melody is mine, lyrics are from the www "free lyrics for your song"

Mixing and mastering in Sonar

Thanks
Jan

Jan,

You have a great song. Very nice vocals - maybe a little less verb would make them easier to make out the lyrics - but it is certainly a keeper.

Hi, Jan -

I really liked this. It had a very "Greg Lake - C'est La Vie" feel to it.

Definitely a MB vibe going. The verb on the instruments was ok, but the verb on the vocal is too much for me. If I had to guess, one verb was applied to the entire stereo track. You might want to try and use a verb as an aux and send varing amounts to it from each instrument and/or vocal. But as it is, it's a great vibe and a nice listen. Great tune.

Jan, that sounds a great song buried in reverb! I felt like shouting: "Guys, GUYS, if you can hear me, can you all come back in from the hallway please and play the song to me here in the studio!"
The chord changes are nice, although the 'Nights In White Satin' homage is a tad noticeable. What struck me immediately was what a superb voice you have, in tune and with a very engaging timbre. I liked the instrumentation although I found myself straining to hear it for the reverb.
Also, you could do with boosting the levels on the final mix to give it some sheen and punch. As you have Sonar, try Boost11.
I'd love to hear a remix of this.

John

LOL.
I honestly appreciate your comments, and I like your exemplification!
Good to have others opinion. I will do some serious tweakings.
Thanks again

Jan, this is fantastic!

You have one super voice. The backing tracks and your additions are spot on.

Personally I was not put off by the reverb. I think it works here.

Very nice song Jan! I agree with Pat in the Moody Blues remind, other that come running to my mind is King Crimson... Epitaph, I would have tried a Hammond background for extra 70's feel. Maybe the reverb "bath" is part of the song charm!. As Rich said "certainly a keeper". Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jan,
Very good song. I really like the sound of your voice but I do agree that the reverb could stand a little taming. I'm an old guitar player that used to listen to Les Paul and Chet Atkins and the Ventures and the Shadows so I love reverb, and I'm not suggesting you lose it at all. If you go the route of an aux track and feed varied amounts into each track, as suggested above, that should help tie the space together a little better.
Over all, a keeper for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Jim

I'd be completely happy if I had just one more guitar.
