A Day Short of Disaster
My goal was just to write a three chord song, but then I couldn't resist adding them there extra chords. laugh I don't know if this would be considered rock or country or a little of both.

The Wrecking Crew:
2757 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm RockHeavy8thsCr
2758 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm RockHeavy8thsM
4323 Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm RockNRollFastKevin
4421 Guitar, Lap Steel, Background CountryPopGritty
4055 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm ModernCountryStraightHi
995 Bass, Electric, HardRockLA

Last Monday night I went to Sunday’s Bar
I talked til Tuesday. I didn’t get very far
Got home at 3:15; my wife was waiting at the door
She said don’t bother coming home any more

I can’t stop the sky from falling on my head
I can’t go down hill any faster
My mouth don't follow anything I've said
I'm always a dollar late and a day short of disaster

Early Wednesday morn, I was cruising in my truck
Sheriff McCallister said that I was out of luck
He’s gonna seize my vehicle, gonna lock it in the pound
Ain’t got no license for driving myself around

I can’t stop the sky from falling on my head
I can’t go down hill any faster
My mouth don't follow anything I've said
I'm always a dollar late and a day short of disaster

I stumbled from my job
And I don’t know where to land
I’m doing what I can’t
When I think I can
Spending all my time
Running from the repo man

I can’t stop the sky from falling on my head
I can’t go down hill any faster
My mouth don't follow anything I've said
I'm always a dollar late and a day short of disaster

I would call it Nashville country!
A great vocal with very good lyrics
"I'm always a dollar late and a day short of disaster", what a great line!
Super backing band and mix

OK, a random thought;

Little of both for sure. Heck, a LOT of both is even closer. Super vocals and harmonies/BGVs. Like the down-on-my-luck-but-still-kickin' lyrics. Lots of energy in the band and vocals to push this into a real pleasing overdrive. Super song, no matter how many chords. smile

Scott,

A good Poor-Little-Me song. smile
Sounds like solid 70's Rock to me, with a little shake of Country.
Good vocals. Nice mix.
Love those little call-an-response BGVs.

Cool rock song with the 70's feel. Nice lines like "I can't go down hill any faster". Catchy groove and the band is very tight. The piano is excellent choice, I wish it would be even louder.
I would say that "Three chords good, more chords better." smile
Enjoyable vocals and very nice harmonies.

It definitely has a bit of Bonnie Raitt with the slide guitar peeking in and out between the lyrical phrases. Very enjoyable, Scott. I always seem just short of disaster myself, so I really enjoyed the lyrics too.

Thanks, Mario. I came up with that line back in May and finally had time to build a song around it.

Good to hear you rockin' out Scott. Sounds like a mix of BTO & Lynyrd.
The main character is a bit of a villain and the perfect object of ridicule to the songs' narrative. I think I know him <sly grin>.
Good band and mix. Fun song and entertaining listen. Not autobiographical I hope smile Well Done.

Thanks, Izzy. You got the character right on the spot. He's a fool who's a victim of his own choice. Definitely not autobiographical, although I occasionally make some stupid choices too.
